Smucker's Uncrustables brand holds a 4% share in the category with 6% household penetration.

NEW YORK — The J.M. Smucker Co. plans to add a production line at its Scottsville, Ky., manufacturing plant and increase its output of Uncrustables branded products, said Mark Belgya, chief financial officer, on Oct. 20 during the company’s investor day presentation in New York.

The product line holds a 4% share in the frozen sandwich category with only a 6% household penetration, according to the company.

“We see significant room for growth as consumers are using Uncrustables for lunchtime occasions as well as snacking options on the go,” said Tina Floyd, vice-president of marketing for consumer foods. “To date, we are very pleased with our performance, with double-digit volume gains in 14 consecutive quarters. Producing over 1 million sandwiches a day, we continue to be very optimistic about the future and this great-tasting product.”

“What’s great about the brand is we put a little bit of marketing behind it, and it starts to grow,” he said. “So, we do have a need to continue to invest in that line, or in that facility.

“We’ve actually put a new bakery in and with this new line, we will increase our capacity. This line will increase that production and give us the flexibility to focus on efficiency improvements across the entire facility. So, it’s not just this one line, but it will give us opportunities over the next, say, two years to continue to optimize the site.”
