SAN FRANCISCO — Del Monte Foods, Inc. has expanded its business in the United States with the acquisition of Sager Creek Vegetable Co., a Siloam Springs, Ark.-based producer of specialty vegetables for food service and retail, for $75 million.
Formerly known as Allens, Inc., Sager Creek manufactures such brands as Veg-all, Freshlike, Popeye, Princella, Trappey’s and Allens, with annual revenue of approximately $250 million.
For Del Monte Foods, one of the country’s largest producers of branded and private label canned fruit, vegetable and tomato products, the acquisition provides new opportunities in food service as well as operating synergies within its network of vegetable production facilities, the company said.
Sager Creek acquired the business of Allens, Inc. last year in a bankruptcy proceeding. Allens was founded in 1926 and owned and operated by several generations of the Allen family.
Said Chris Kiser, chief executive of Sager Creek: “On behalf of our associates, we are honored and proud to become a part of the Del Monte family."
