KANSAS CITY — French fries are getting a makeover — several, in fact. Restaurants are dressing up the hamburger’s favorite sidekick with bold flavors and innovative toppings to take fries to the next level.
For example, Wienerschnitzel has unveiled four new flavors of chili cheese fries loaded with even more toppings: buffalo bacon, bacon ranch, triple cheese double bacon, and ultimate chili cheese fries.
Also adding new fry toppings is Carl’s Jr. The chain is testing pizza fries, which feature Parmesan marinara sauce, melted mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices.
Wendy’s is revamping its fries by adding spice with its ghost pepper fries. The new menu item features Wendy’s classic fries topped with cheese sauce, diced jalapeños, shredded cheddar cheese and a ghost pepper sauce.
“We are raising the bar on spicy again,” said Liz Geraghty, vice-president of marketing for Wendy’s. “We are really heating things up for consumers who love spicy food.”
