KANSAS CITY — Busy consumers are looking for easy-to-grab foods to fuel their day, and top brands have heard their plea. Protein-packed snacks are surging to the forefront of the snack industry.

Two protein snack mixes have emerged from Frito-Lay’s Cracker Jack’D brand, providing 7 grams of protein per serving. The mixes come in Peanut Butter Crunch and Double Chocolate and feature sweet coated peanuts mixed with granola clusters.

“Protein provides the energy needed to get through life’s every day hurdles,” said Ryan Matiyow, senior director of marketing for Frito-Lay. “New Peanut Butter Crunch and Double Chocolate Cracker Jack’D snack mixes give consumers a great tasting snack with the fuel they desire to help them to power through the day.”

Also providing an on-the-go protein snack is Sargento with its Balanced Breaks line. These snack packs — composed of different cheeses, nuts and dried fruits — are portable, individual-sized, and offer 7 grams of protein per pack.

Adding more protein to the snack aisle, Boar’s Head has released a premium snack line featuring five product families of portable items. The snacks include jerkies, cheese snack pouches, hummus snack packs, hummus singles and antipasto packs. All are made with no fillers, byproducts, artificial colors or flavors, trans fats or gluten.
