EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Van de Vries Spice Corp. and Spiceco have consolidated to become Spice Chain Corp., a spice, herb and seasonings processor, blender and packager. The Frontenac Co., a Chicago-based private equity firm, acquired Van de Vries Spice Corp. and Spiceco on Feb. 9.

Spice Chain, based in East Brunswick, serves food retailers, manufacturers and distributors across the United States. The company operates four facilities with over 200,000 square feet of production and distribution.

“The re-naming of these two 50-year-old businesses as Spice Chain Corp. is aimed to capitalize on our combined strengths, allow us to offer more services to our customers and accelerate our growth,” said Pat Mulhern, chief executive officer of Spice Chain.

Jim Peterkin, who helped lead Spiceco for the past 25 years, will lead food service for the new company.

“Customers of Spiceco knew us for our packaging, product variety and speed,” he said. “Now, as Spice Chain, we can offer our customers improved processing techniques, including superior grinding and precision blending, as well as packaging in just every size and form.”

Tom Schmidt will run the manufacturing and retail sales team.
