Blue Bell voluntarily recalled all of its frozen desserts from stores in April following a deadly Listeriosis outbreak that sickened 10 and killed 3.

BRENHAM, TEXAS — Blue Bell Creameries secured an investment from billionaire Sid Bass, a Texas investor with investments in oil and gas. Terms were not disclosed.

The company voluntarily recalled all of its frozen desserts from stores in April following a deadly Listeriosis outbreak that sickened 10 and killed 3. Later in May, Blue Bell announced that it would have to lay off 37% of its workforce in the wake of the incident.

“We are pleased Sid Bass has made a significant investment with our company,’ said Paul Kruse, president and chief executive officer of Blue Bell. “The additional capital will ensure the successful return of our ice cream to the market and our loyal customers.”

Blue Bell recently announced it would be testing ice cream production at its Sylacauga, Ala., facility in the next several weeks. The company said the ice cream produced will be closely monitored and tested.
