KANSAS CITY — In the midst of a scorching summer, restaurants are adding new cold beverages to their menus to help customers handle the heat.

Peet’s Coffee & Tea is offering a new line of barista-made Mighty Leaf iced teas and tea infusions, including two black tea, two green tea, and two herbal tea varieties.

“With the majority of Peet’s stores in California, we’re in the midst of a heat wave, so it couldn’t be a better time to help customers cool off with our refreshing, small-batch brewed Mighty Leaf iced teas and iced tea infusions,” said Tyler Ricks, chief marketing officer of Peet’s Coffee and board member of Mighty Leaf Tea. “We believe Mighty Leaf will now be a home run in elevating our tea experience.”

Also offering a course to cool down quick, Starbucks’ is expanding its iced beverage offerings with the new Orange Cream Fizzio Soda and Strawberry Acai Refresher. The Orange Cream Fizzio soda features a blend of orange, vanilla, herbal and floral flavors. The Strawberry Acai Refresher offers a bold strawberry flavor with hints of passion fruit and acai.

Fruit is also the star in Dunkin’ Donuts new cold beverage offerings: fruit smoothies. Available in Strawberry Banana and Tropical Mango varieties, each 16-oz smoothie is made with real fruit and low-fat yogurt.

McDonald’s has added a new frappe to help its customers ward off the warmth. The Oreo Frappe is joining the McCafe family. Made from a blend of mocha, coffee and Oreo pieces, the frappe is topped with whipped cream and Oreo cookie crumbles.
