MINNEAPOLIS — Less than a month after General Mills, Inc. launched Progresso chicken soups featuring 100% antibiotic- and hormone-free chicken breast, the company is introducing another innovation: a vegan soup line.
Progresso Good Natured Soups use different bean bases and vegetable purees to create a creamy texture without dairy ingredients, the company said. Non-G.M.O. and free of preservatives from artificial sources, the soups are available in three flavors: Hearty Tomato with Spinach and Roasted Garlic, Hearty Corn and Chipotle Chowder, and Hearty Lentil with Garden Vegetables.
“We know that consumers are more interested in plant-based diets,” said Roger Galloway, marketing manager for Progresso. “With Good Natured soups, we’re celebrating vegetables and showing that beans are not boring and lentils can be fun. Whether you start your Mondays going meatless or recently started pinning vegetarian inspiration, our unique flavors will satisfy your hearty appetite.”
The Hearty Tomato with Spinach and Roasted Garlic soup features diced tomatoes, carrots, celery, spinach, onions, red bell peppers and cooked navy bean powder, while the Hearty Corn and Chipotle Chowder variety contains corn, red bell peppers and cooked pinto bean powder. Hearty Lentil with Garden Vegetables includes tomato, fire roasted carrots, roasted onion, green lentils, roasted red bell peppers, green sweet peppers, celery and cooked black bean powder.Progresso Good Natured soups are available in two-serving 17-oz cartons and have a suggested retail price of $3.29.
