SUFFOLK, VA. — Peet’s Coffee plans to invest $58 million to build a 175,000-square-foot Roastery to produce a variety of coffee. The facility will create 135 new jobs. Currently, Peet’s Alameda, Calif., location services all of the company’s retail, grocery, wholesale and e-commerce channels in America.

Peet’s new Roastery will further its mission, the company said, as one of its main goals is to deliver fresh coffee to consumers as close as possible to its roast date.

“Financing the development of an East Coast Roastery in Suffolk, Va. — our first outside of our LEED Gold certified location in Alameda, Calif. — is a strategic investment in the company,” said Dave Burwick, chief executive officer of Peet’s Coffee. “Suffolk is the perfect location to support our high-quality standards while ensuring that the freshest beans are made available to our east coast consumers much more quickly than today.”
