ATLANTA — Chick-fil-A, Inc. plans to serve 100% cage-free eggs at its nearly 2,000 restaurants nationwide by the end of 2026. The commitment to cage-free eggs follows the privately held company’s pledge in 2014 to serve chicken raised without antibiotics at all of its restaurants by 2019.
Rob Dugas, chief procurement officer and vice-president of supply chain at Chick-fil-A, said the company is already collaborating with its egg suppliers to begin the transition to cage-free egg production.
“With the majority of the egg industry currently relying on conventional hen houses, the transition to a new, cage-free system that can reliably and safely supply nationwide brands will take time,” Mr. Dugas said. “However, Chick-fil-A takes the transition seriously and has put in place a process to see the transition through.”Chick-fil-A joins the growing number of restaurants planning to transition to cage-free eggs after McDonald’s announced its cage-free commitment last September. The burgeoning list includes Sonic Drive-In, White Castle, Denny’s, Wendy’s, Subway, Panera Bread, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Caribou Coffee Co., Peet’s Coffee, Dunkin’ Donuts, Noodles & Co., Taco Bell and Starbucks.
