ANAHEIM, CALIF. — Nona Lim, a San Francisco-based soup company, soon will debut a line of savory Asian-inspired soups and bone broths packaged in individualized 10-oz. cups. Available in six varieties, including Vietnamese pho bone broth, carrot ginger soup and miso ramen vegan bone broth, the products were designed with millennials in mind, founder Nona Lim told Food Business News.
“Millennials want to have their favorite foods their way on-the-go, and they like to snack on healthy meals with minimal preparation,” she said. “With these Nona Lim Soup and Broth Cups, we empower this savvy new customer with a convenient choice that’s the closest to whole one could possibly purchase as a quick snack.”
Single-serve cups were a hot product trend at Natural Products Expo West, held March 10-13 in Anaheim. Sweet and savory options spanning meal occasions abounded among innovation unveiled at the show.
“Convenience is everything right now,” said Elizabeth Stein, founder and chief executive officer of Purely Elizabeth, Boulder, Colo., which in April is launching a new line of ancient grain and millet puffs cereal in single-serve cups.
“The idea for the products came from listening to our customers and granola eaters in general, who were cutting the granola with the lower sugar, lower calorie more voluminous cereal option,” Ms. Stein told Food Business News. “We decided to create the solution for them and in an easy grab-and-go format.”
Lightly sweetened with coconut sugar, the products are gluten-free, vegan and made with organic ingredients. Varieties include original, cranberry pecan, blueberry hemp, and pumpkin fig.
“There aren’t many other healthy cold cereal on-the-go options on the market,” Ms. Stein added.
