KANSAS CITY — With the New Year come New Year’s resolutions, and restaurants are aiming to help their customers meet those goals with new menu items.

To appeal to those cutting carbs in the New Year, Red Robin is offering the new Avocado Chicken Wedgie. The bunless handheld features a fire-grilled chicken breast, bacon, avocado, tomatoes, red onion and ranch dressing all wrapped in a lettuce wedge instead of a bun.

Planet Smoothie is serving its new line of Balanced Smoothies for consumers committed to counting calories in 2017. The Big Bang, Mountain Man Crunch Lite and Chocolate Elvis Lite Balanced Smoothies contain 340 calories or less and feature ingredients such as nonfat, no sugar added frozen yogurt, almond milk and PB2 powdered peanut butter.

“Customers are going to love our three Balanced Smoothies, especially as those New Year’s resolutions start to kick in,” said Nicole Butcher, national marketing manager for Planet Smoothie. “The Big Bang is a current customer favorite filled with delicious and healthy ingredients like strawberries, bananas and whey protein, while the Mountain Man Crunch Lite and Chocolate Elvis Lite feature PB2 to create lighter versions of two of our most popular smoothies.”

Red Lobster’s three new shrimp offerings cater to customers who resolved to be more adventurous in the New Year. The seafood chain is adding Wild-Caught Firecracker Red Shrimp, Creamy Shrimp-and-Cheese Linguini and Bourbon-Brown Sugar Grilled Shrimp to its menu.

“Shrimp is one of the most versatile seafood proteins, making it perfect for seafood lovers to explore new flavors and preparations,” said Dustin Hilinski, executive chef and culinary director at Red Lobster. “The Big Festival of Shrimp is a great opportunity for guests to try new combinations, and perhaps even expand their flavor palates as they start the New Year.”
