Taco burgers and biscuit donuts are among items recently launched.
From the same chain to launch Pop-Tart ice cream sandwiches comes the Bisnut, which features made-from-scratch biscuit dough baked and topped with a choice of white or chocolate icing and sprinkles. Carl’s Jr. is testing the biscuit-donut hybrid on its breakfast menu in select Southern California restaurants. "Bisnuts were inspired by other donut mash-ups becoming cult hits around the country," said Brad Haley, chief marketing officer of CKE Restaurants Holdings. "Since we have our signature made-from-scratch biscuit dough in all of our restaurants, we tried making donuts out of it, and they tasted great.”
A new limited-time offer from Del Taco swaps the shell for a burger bun. The Bun Taco contains seasoned ground beef, grated cheddar, shredded lettuce and tomato on a sesame seed bun.
Jack in the Box is testing its version of a Cronut in select California locations. The hybrid pastry has a soft, flaky interior and a cinnamon sugar coating.
Cheesy bread and hot dogs unite for the latest innovation at Sonic Drive-In. Cheesy Bread Dogs feature 100% beef hot dogs served on buns with cheese baked in. Varieties include the Ultimate Cheese and Bacon, topped with cheddar cheese sauce and bacon bits; and Garlic Parmesan, which has grilled onions and garlic parmesan sauce. The launch follows last year’s introduction of Pretzel Dogs, served in pretzel bread-style hot dog buns.
The quesadilla-meets-burrito contains seasoned beef, Latin rice, chipotle sauce and reduced-fat sour cream, all wrapped up in a grilled quesadilla filled with melted cheeses.
