Global flavors and cultural cuisine are trending in new product innovation.
The Kellogg Co.’s MorningStar Farms brand is extending its vegetarian heat-and-eat vegetable bowls line with five new flavors. The new varieties offer internationally-inspired varieties as well as unique twists on classic favorites.
The Japanese Soba Noodles bowl contains soba noodles, veggie steak strips, edamame, bamboo shoots and a zesty soy ginger garlic sauce.
The Moroccan Medley bowl features a blend of peppers, sweet potatoes, green beans and veggie Chik’n Strips over couscous in a spicy Harissa sauce.
The Chik’n Tikka Masala bowl includes a spicy blend of vegetables, veggie Chik’n Strips, authentic spices, a savory tomato curry sauce and a side of naan.
The Italian Sausage Bake bowl is a combination of spinach, zucchini, Veggie Sausage Crumbles and cheese layered with béchamel and tomato basil sauces.
The Chik’n Pot Pie bowl features Veggie Chik’n Strips and a wine and herb sauce topped with a biscuit crust.

Michael Foods, Inc., a subsidiary of Post Holdings, is launching a line of Crystal Farms brand shredded cheeses designed specifically for use in Hispanic dishes. The lineup features four varieties: Quesadilla, Oaxaca, Asadero and Muenster.
“Our research shows that consumers are looking for ways to make more authentic and ethnic meals at home, and also prefer to use shredded cheese when cooking,” said Katie Egan, senior brand manager for Crystal Farms. “Crystal Farms’ new shredded varieties will meet that need and offer more options for enhancing ethnic meals.”

Enjoy Life Foods has added two new globally-inspired flavors to its line of Plentils chips: Thai Chili Lime and Moroccan Spice. The allergy-friendly lentil snacks are certified gluten-free, Non-GMO Project verified, kosher and halal certified.
“Now more than ever, the influential millennial demographic is demanding foods made with exotic flavors that not only deliver in taste, but in nutrition and texture,” said Joel Warady, chief sales and marketing officer at Enjoy Life Foods. “Our new Thai Chili Lime and Moroccan Spice Plentils were created to satisfy millennials’ adventurous palates while giving everyone an allergy-friendly, crunchy and high-protein snack that tastes even better than traditional chips – all while spicing up the Free-From category.”

GNP Co.’s newest product roll-out is designed to shake up traditional meal preparation. The company is introducing a line of chicken breast strip kits to help time-challenged consumers prepare high-quality food in under 20 minutes.
Available in Savory, Sweet Chili, Jamaican, Honey Barbeque and Chipotle Adobo varieties, Gold'n Plump Shakers are sold fresh, not frozen. The boneless skinless breast strips are sized for snacking or as ingredients in other dishes. Each 20-oz Shakers package includes 16 oz of chicken, 4 oz of seasoned Panko-style breadcrumbs and a zip-seal bag for shaking.
“As schedules get more hectic, people tend to prepare last-minute meals, and want products that offer quick-and-easy prep and the enjoyment of making something themselves,” said Tracy Miller, director of innovation and management for GNP Co. “The Shakers line offers ready-to-cook fresh chicken raised with No Antibiotics–Ever; more preparation involvement with minimal extra work; and superior quality and flavor compared to similar frozen products.”

Prairie Farms is introducing its Chef’s Splendor Dips line, available in three flavors: roasted red pepper, Tzatziki and spicy ranch. The gluten-free dips are crafted in small batches with milk and cream from cows not treated with artificial growth hormones.
“The foodie movement is all about creativity in the kitchen, and our specialty line of products provides options for our customers to experience incredible new taste sensations,” said Rebecca Leinenbach, vice-president of marketing and communications for Prairie Farms. “Our line of specialty products will also increase opportunities for new distribution in specialty food stores.”

Revolution Foods is unveiling two new lines of speed scratch meal solutions for busy consumers.
Dinner Hero meal kits include recipes and feature whole grains, custom spice blends and sauces. The consumer needs only to add protein for a complete meal. Containing no artificial colors or flavors, Dinner Hero kits are available in four flavors: Coconut Curry, Sesame Garlic, Smoky Tomato Sausage and Fiesta Taco. Each kit offers 42 to 49 grams per serving of whole grains from a brown rice and quinoa blend of brown rice and bamboo rice.
Breakfast Hero is a line of thaw-and-pour pancake batter that requires no added water or mixing. Made with whole milk, the products contain no artificial colors or flavors. The boxes each make 15 pancakes and come in three varieties: Original, Multigrain and Chocolate Multigrain.

PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division is revealing a new bold nacho snack: Doritos Loaded. The bite-size, triangle-shaped snacks are stuffed with melted cheese and covered in a crispy Doritos-flavored crust. Doritos Loaded are available in two flavors: Nacho Cheese and Jalapeno & Cheese.
“Doritos celebrates people stepping outside of their normal routine and doing new things,” said Marissa Solis, vice-president of marketing for Frito-Lay North America. “That definitely applies to Doritos Loaded, a snacking experience that takes bold to the next level. By increasing Doritos Loaded’s availability, we’re daring snackers everywhere to try it.”

Rich Products’ Farm Rich brand is launching a new line of frozen baked goods called Farm Rich Bakery. As part of the line’s introduction, the company is unveiling five Farm Rich Bakery premium breakfast and snack items.
The lineup includes Sausage, Egg and Cheese Pull Aparts, Donut Holes in cinnamon sugar and chocolate varieties, Blueberry Scones and French Toast Sticks.
“Breakfast products continue to expand in supermarkets nationwide, with more and more consumers enjoying breakfast food any time of day — and there’s been a need for more convenient, high-quality ‘bake-shop’ products in stores” said Shannon Gilreath, director of marketing for Farm Rich. “Our new bakery products have broad appeal and give consumers additional options with their morning routines, as well as filling snacks or dessert items for any time of day. Fresh Express is opting for organic in its newest product line: Fresh Express Organic Salad Kits. The kits include 100% USDA organic ingredients, from the vegetables to the salad dressing.
The Classic Caesar kit features romaine lettuce, cheese and garlic croutons, Parmesan cheese and a Caesar dressing.
The Sweet Dijon Onion salad kit contains a mix of baby kale and baby spinach, red and green chard, pumpkin and chia seeds, herb-seasoned chickpeas and sweet Dijon onion dressing.
The Pomegranate Cranberry kit includes romaine, radicchio and tango lettuces, cranberries, toasted quinoa and a pomegranate and hibiscus dressing.
“Consumers have demanded quick and nutritious salad options for years,” said Michael Golderman, marketing brand leader for Fresh Express. “The desire for fresh, delicious, convenient salads hasn’t changed, but consumers have turned the idea of organic eating from a trend to a lifestyle. A new brand has popped up in the snack aisle, offering a mini popcorn product. The Little Kernel popcorn is popped in 100% olive oil, made with whole grains, and contains no artificial ingredients and is gluten-free, G.M.O.-free and dairy-free. The mini popcorn snack is available in six varieties: Truffle Sea Salt, Sweet & Salty, Pink Himalayan Salt, White Cheddar, Butter and Naked (No Salt Added).
