New on the shelves

New products featuring fruit and chocolate combinations are flourishing.

Unilever

Unilever’s Ben & Jerry’s brand has put a spin on a fan favorite with its new Chocolate Cherry Garcia ice cream. The frozen treat features chocolate ice cream with cherries and fudge flakes.

“We know that Cherry Garcia has been a longtime fan favorite, but we wanted to mix things up a bit,” said Eric Fredette, flavor specialist for Ben & Jerry’s. “This was a fun way to add a chocolate twist to create a new flavor by using the same euphoric ingredients from Cherry Garcia our fans have grown to love.”

PepsiCo, Inc.

Smartfood Popcorn, a subsidiary of PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division, is adding an indulgent flavor to its lineup for the holiday season. Smartfood Indulgences Raspberry & Dark Chocolate flavored popcorn features a combination of raspberry and dark chocolate drizzled over kettle corn. Made with 100% whole grains and no artificial flavors or preservatives, the sweet snack is available for a limited time.

18 Rabbits Organics

18 Rabbits Organics is adding two new products to its Jr. line. Chocolate Cherry Jr. Cereal consists of cherries and cocoa folded together with whole grains, seeds and honey. The Chocolate Strawberry Jr. Bar is made with strawberries, dark chocolate, whole grains, seeds, maple syrup and honey.

The new products are USDA Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project verified and gluten-free.

“We’re exploring new ingredients we love across every category of our products,” said Alison Bailey Vercruysse, founder and chief executive officer of 18 Rabbits Organics. “We’re committed to bringing healthy and delicious packaged foods for consumers to enjoy their favorite flavors both at home and on-the-go.”

The Campbell Soup Co.

The Campbell Soup. Co.’s C-Fresh division is launching a new line of organic, ultra-premium soups called Souplicity. The high pressure processed, refrigerated soups are USDA Certified Organic and contain no G.M.O.s or preservatives.

The Roasted Red Pepper Tomato Gouda variety combines red peppers, tomatoes, olive oil, basil and gouda cheese.

The Carrot Curry Ginger soup is a blend of sweet carrots and ginger seasoned with curry spices and a hint of lime.

The Corn Pablano Lime flavor unites sweet corn, poblano peppers, cilantro, cumin and a touch of lime.

The Broccoli Parmesan Lemon soup blends Parmesan cheese with broccoli and a trace of lemon.

“While more than half of consumers are looking for foods that are both organic and made with simple, recognizable ingredients, there has been minimal innovation in the fresh-refrigerated soup category to meet these demands,” said Todd Putman, general manager of Campbell’s C-Fresh C.P.G. unit. “With Souplicity, we’re bringing bold flavors and variety to consumers who crave a fresh culinary twist on a classic.”

Mizkan America, Inc.

Two new organic pasta sauces are joining Mizkan America's Bertolli family. Made from California-grown tomatoes, both varieties are USDA Certified Organic. Bertolli Organic Fire-Roasted Garlic Marinara sauce is infused with roasted garlic, herbs, spices, basil and onion. Bertolli Organic Five Cheese sauce is filled with five organic cheese varieties: Romano, Parmesan, Asiago, Provolone and Fontina.

GNP Co.

GNP Co. is meeting consumers’ growing demand for quick and easy healthy food options by rolling out a line of Gold’n Plump chicken meatballs and sliced sausages. The products, which are made from boneless, skinless chicken thigh meat, may be prepared in as little as 20 minutes and contain no fillers, preservatives, added hormones, MSG, nitrites, nitrates, artificial flavors or artificial colors.

The chicken meatballs are oven roasted and come in two flavors: Homestyle, made of American breadcrumbs, rosemary and low-sodium chicken broth; and Pesto Italian, made of Romano, Parmesan and aged Asiago cheeses and roasted garlic. The sliced chicken sausages also come in two flavors: Italian Cheese & Peppers, made of aged Parmesan and Asiago cheeses, red and green peppers and paprika; and Hickory Smoked, made with brown sugar, rosemary and hickory smoke flavor.

“Research shows that 28% of consumers are preparing more meals in less than 20 minutes than five years ago," said Tracy Miller, director of product innovation and management for GNP Co. “Meatballs are universally loved and a staple for nearly every culture, while sausages are being considered the new bacon. Both products offer what today's consumers, millennials especially, are looking for: better, healthier ingredients, bold not boring flavor, leaner protein, and convenient preparation with the taste and texture of handmade.”

Vintage Italia

Vintage Italia, the parent company of the Pasta Chips brand, is expanding its baked snack portfolio with new Pasta Bow Ties. Crafted from pasta dough, the baked bowtie-shaped pasta chips feature durum wheat semolina flour and farro. Pasta Bow Ties are available in four flavors: Meatball Parm, Creamy Ranch, Honey Butter and Smooth Cheddar.

“With Pasta Chips, we really created an entirely new snacking category — chips baked from fresh pasta dough,” said Jerry Bello, founder and chief executive officer of Pasta Chips. “Pasta Bow Ties takes this innovation a step further, offering a better-for-you and flavor-packed option perfect for snacking straight out of the bag, and easily found alongside conventional chips in your local snack aisle. We maintain our dedication to using the same quality durum wheat semolina flour, as well as integrating protein-dense ancient grains and the Italian herbs that pay homage to our traditional Italian heritage.”

Schumann Cheese

Schumann Cheese has added a new flavor to its snack portfolio: Cheddar Cello Whisps. The gluten-free, rBST-free crisp snacks offer 10 grams of protein per serving.
