New products geared at children hide nutritional ingredients in child-friendly flavors and favorites.
Clif Bar & Co.’s Clif Kid division is introducing Clif Kid Zbar Fruit + Veggie. Made with whole grains, vegetable powders and a blend of fruit puree, these certified U.S.D.A. organic snack bars contain no bioengineered ingredients, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors or synthetic preservatives. The chewy bars are available in three flavors: Awesome Orange, featuring carrot, mango and orange; Keen Green, featuring apple, sweet potato and spinach; and Purple Power, featuring sweet potato, beet and berry.

E-hydrate is taking protein powder to the playground with its new Kids Protein On-the-Go. The electrolyte-packed protein drink mixes, which require only the addition of water, come in pre-portioned pouches in cinnamon roll and milk chocolate flavors. Each 70-calorie pouch contains 10 grams of tri-whey protein and 4 grams of sugar. The protein drinks are gluten-free and contain no artificial ingredients.

Quality Pasta Co. is pumping up a classic comfort food with protein. The company’s new Muscle Mac line of high protein macaroni and cheese products contain 20 grams of protein per serving. The line includes macaroni and cheese, deluxe shells and cheese, and individual macaroni and cheese microwavable cups. Containing no artificial ingredients, partially hydrogenated oils or trans fats, the pasta products feature bioengineered-free semolina wheat pasta enriched with vegetable protein.

The Kellogg Co. is putting the pop in Pop-Tarts with its new A&W Root Beer and Crush Orange Pop-Tarts. The A&W variety features a root beer-flavored filling and is topped with white frosting and brown, red and orange sprinkles. The Crush toaster pastry offers a Crush Orange citrus-flavored filling and is topped with white frosting and orange string icing.
“We’re always trying to surprise our fans with flavors they’ll love,” said Angela Gusse, director of marketing for Pop-Tarts. “Pop-Tarts and soda pop is a fun, new flavor combination — the Frosted A&W Root Beer and Frosted Crush Orange varieties are so different from our fruity and dessert-type tarts, and this is our first beverage-inspired flavor. PepsiCo, Inc.’s Frito-Lay division is spicing up its Tostitos portfolio with three new additions. Tostitos Cantina Chipotle Thins are thin corn tortilla chips sprinkled with a blend of Cantina-inspired flavors and seasonings that offer a mild, smoky heat and chipotle spice. New Tostitos Dip-etizers Spicy Queso features red bell peppers and cracked red pepper added to Tostitos microwaveable queso. The brand’s new Tostitos Habanero Salsa consists of tomatoes, onions and jalapeños combined with habanero peppers.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. is launching a line of edible coffee treats in three classic Krispy Kreme flavors. Coffee Thins come in Original Glazed, Caramel Macchiato and Cappuccino flavors and are produced using Tierra Nueva, L.L.C.’s patented technology process.

The Quaker Oats Co., a unit of PepsiCo, Inc., is introducing Quaker SuperGrains Instant Hot Cereal and Real Medleys SuperGrains Granola. The hot cereal features a blend of oats, barley, rye, flax and quinoa and is available in honey almond or apples and cinnamon flavors. Each serving contains 5 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein from a blend of grains, whey and seeds. Quaker’s new granola contains a mixture of oats, wheat, flaxseed, quinoa, sunflower seeds, amaranth, barley, fruit pieces and nuts. Offering 28 grams of whole grains per serving, the granola is available in cinnamon apple walnut and blueberry pecan flavors.

Naturally More is launching three new probiotic-packed nut butters in both jars and pouches. The products, described as “creamy with a little crunch,” contain no bioengineered ingredients and all feature flaxseed and the probiotic GanedenBC30. Naturally More’s U.S.D.A. Certified Organic Valencia Peanut Butter, offering 8 grams of protein per serving, is made with dry roasted organic Valencia peanuts, sea salt, coconut sugar, flax and probiotics. The new Roasted Almond Butter offers 6 grams of protein and features dry roasted California almonds, sea salt, coconut sugar, flax and probiotics. TreeHouse Foods’ McCann’s Irish Oatmeal is offering new products that target three big trends: Gluten-free, non-bioengineered and convenience. The company is introducing McCann’s Irish Oatmeal Gluten-Free, available in traditional canisters and in a Quick & Easy format, which cooks in five minutes.
McCann’s also is offering Non-GMO Project Verified Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal, Quick & Easy Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal, and Quick Cooking Rolled Oats. The 100% whole grain products are manufactured using minimal processing and contain no artificial ingredients.
Catering to convenience, McCann’s is launching a line of Quick & Easy Steel Cut Irish Oats in single serve microwavable cups. The on-the-go oats are available in maple brown sugar, apple cinnamon, vanilla honey and original varieties.

Tommy’s Superfoods is adding four new blends of flash-frozen superfoods to its lineup: Natural Greens with Uncured Bacon, Cauliflower and Green Beans, Root Fusion, and Asparagus with Uncured Bacon. The new varieties are all Non-GMO Project Verified, and those that feature bacon include only antibiotic- and hormone-free bacon.
