New menu items draw inspiration from the flavors and fare of Italy.
Arby’s is adding a classic Italian sandwich to its menu. The chain’s new Italian Meatball features four Italian meatballs, roasted garlic marinara and melted provolone cheese on a toasted sub roll.

Starbucks is serving a trio of new cold beverages for summer.
The Teavana Shaken Berry Sangria Herbal Tea blends Teavana Iced Passion Tango Tea — which offers hibiscus, lemongrass and apple flavors — and a sangria syrup with peach, elderberry, blood orange and raspberry juice concentrates. The tea is shaken with apple juice, berries, orange slices and ice.
The Iced Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato, Starbucks’ first iced beverage featuring coconut milk, is made by pouring espresso shots over chilled coconut milk combined with white chocolate mocha sauce. The beverage is finished with caramel and mocha sauce.
The Affogato-style Frappuccino blended beverage consists of a finished vanilla bean, caramel or mocha Frappuccino with a shot of espresso poured on top.

Corner Bakery Cafe is channeling the flavors of Italy with its new Italian Inspirations menu, featuring two new sandwiches and a new salad.
The Italian Classic Sandwich features capicola ham, Genoa salami, provolone cheese, sliced pepperoncini, Roma tomatoes, iceberg and romaine lettuce, mayo and red wine vinaigrette on a baguette.
The Rustic Italian Panini offers capicola ham, Genoa salami, provolone cheese, oven-roasted tomatoes, sliced pepperoncini and mayo all grilled on sourdough bread.
The Italian Chef Salad includes capicola ham, Genoa salami, mozzarella, sliced pepperoncini, cavatappi pasta salad and red wine vinaigrette on a bed of iceberg and romaine lettuce.
“We’ve combined traditional Italian meats and cheeses to create classic Italian flavors in our cafes,” said Ric Scicchitano, executive vice-president of the food and supply chain at Corner Bakery Cafe. “Guests will experience the fresh tastes of Italy with capicola ham, Genoa salami, provolone, fresh mozzarella and pepperoncini featured in our new sandwiches and salads.”

A better-for-you breakfast sandwich is coming to Chick-fil-A. The chain’s new Egg White Grill, served on a toasted multigrain English muffin, features grilled chicken breast, grilled egg whites and American cheese. The sandwich offers 200 calories and 25 grams of protein.
“At Chick-fil-A, we’re constantly looking for innovative — and delicious — ways to meet the needs of our guests,” said David Farmer, vice-president of menu strategy and development for Chick-fil-A. “We understand the importance of breakfast and the impact it has throughout the day. We tested the Egg White Grill in select markets across the country, including our busiest restaurants in Manhattan, and our customers gave us great feedback. The Egg White Grill is the perfect solution for our health-conscious customers looking for a grab-and-go breakfast.”

Taco Bell is turning up the volume on its classic Crunchwrap. The chain is launching the Triple Double Crunchwrap, featuring double layers of seasoned beef, double layers of nacho sauce and double layers of tostada shell. The handheld also includes lettuce, tomatoes and reduced-fat sour cream. For those seeking more heat, Taco Bell’s Spicy Triple Double Crunchwrap adds spicy ranch sauce and jalapeño peppers to the mix.

To help customers beat the heat, Sonic is serving a new line of ice cream treats and a new line of frozen beverages.
Sonic’s new Sweet & Salty Master Blasts, which feature the chain’s ice cream combined with sweet and salty mix-ins, are available in five varieties: Oreo Peanut Butter & Pretzel, Salted Caramel Pretzel Cluster, Dark Chocolate Pretzel & Chip, Peanut Butter & Chocolate Potato Chip Cluster and Salted Caramel Cookie Dough & Chip.
“Sweet and salty is an iconic combination with timeless popularity, making these unique matches the perfect addition to our celebrated Master Blast menu,” said Scott Uehlein, vice-president of product innovation and development for Sonic.
Offering customers a taste of the tropics, Sonic also is introducing its new Island Breeze Frozen Drinks lineup. The non-alcoholic beverages are available in flavors such as Chipotle Spiced Margarita, Pina Colada and Strawberry Mango Margarita.
“Our customers come to Sonic for new, unique and flavorful drink combinations they can’t get anywhere else,” Mr. Uehlei said. “With the addition of Island Breeze Frozen Drinks, we’re giving guests a refreshing, new taste of paradise.”

Jack in the Box is proving pub-inspired flavor with its new Jack’s Brewhouse Bacon Burger. The sandwich features the chain’s signature patty topped with grilled onions, hickory smoked bacon, sliced tomatoes, lettuce, and Porter Ale cheese sauce served on a toasted potato bun with a creamy pub sauce spread on both sides.
“We’ve combined quality, craveable convenience and elevated indulgence for a new level of burger,” said Iwona Alter, vice-president of product marketing for Jack in the Box. “We think our loyal guests as well as new customers will love the burger’s distinctive flavors and decadent ingredients.”

Subway is showcasing its recent rotisserie-style chicken addition in its new Chicken Caesar Melt. The sub features slow-cooked chicken raised without antibiotics, savory Caesar sauce, sliced provolone and grated Parmesan cheese with the customer’s choice of vegetables and bread.

Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s are beefing up their new burger with a trio of bacon formats. The chains’ new Bacon 3-Way Burger features thick-cut, Applewood-smoked bacon strips, crumbled bacon and bacon jam, which combines bacon pieces, balsamic vinegar, caramelized onions and molasses. The sandwich also includes lettuce, tomato, and American cheese atop a 1/3-lb charbroiled 100% Black Angus beef patty, all served on a brioche-style bun.
“There’s no question that bacon has become one of the most popular and beloved food items in America, not only found on menus everywhere in its traditional strip form, but it’s showing up in new ways all the time,” said Brad Haley, chief marketing officer for Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s. “At Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s, we pride ourselves on our ability to bring things to fast-food consumers that they previously could only get at sit-down restaurants for a lot more money, which led us to the Bacon 3-Way Burger. Pie Five Pizza Co. is bringing a beloved candy bar to its new dessert: The Cheesecake Brownie made with Snickers Bar. The sweet treat features layers of brownie, Snickers bar pieces and cheesecake topped with chocolate icing and caramel drizzles.
