Plant-based innovation at Expo East

Products featured at the tradeshow included mozzarella made from sprouted brown rice, milk made from oats and tuna made from beans.

Good Catch

Debuting at Expo East, Good Catch Foods offers a range of fish-free products including tuna, burgers and cakes made with a blend of peas, lentils, chickpeas and beans. With 17 grams of plant protein per serving, the products feature a real seafood taste and texture without a fishy smell, co-founder Chad Sarno told Food Business News.

Elmhurst Milked

Elmhurst Milked launched six dairy alternatives at Expo East, including Milked Oats, Milked Brown Rice, Milked Peanuts, Milked Peanuts Chocolate, Milked Almonds Unsweetened and Milked Hazelnuts Unsweetened. The new products join a lineup that includes Milked Cashews and Milked Walnuts. The company uses a patented process to draw out all nutrients from the nuts and grains to form a creamy beverage without the use of chemical additives or thickeners.

Fronana

Billed as “the original banana based ice cream,” Fronana flavors include chocolate chip cookie dough, mocha, mango pineapple, dark chocolate and wild berry. The frozen desserts contain no added sugars or artificial ingredients and offer four servings of fruit per pint.

MozzaRisella

Made from sprouted brown rice, MozzaRisella vegan cheese alternatives are available in a range of formats, including spreadable and slices. Products are made in Italy and are U.S.D.A. certified organic.

Oatly

Set for a U.S. debut is Oatly, a range of oat-based milk alternatives first introduced nearly 30 years ago in Sweden.

No Evil Foods

Meat alternatives from No Evil Foods are made with seitan, also known as vital wheat gluten. This stand-in for Italian sausage is seasoned with a flavorful blend of rosemary, sweet fennel, thyme and other organic spices.

Lily Puffs

From Vedic Brands comes Lily Puffs, a vegan cheddar snack featuring water lily seeds puffed and roasted in organic coconut oil and flavored with nutritional yeast, sea salt and paprika. High in magnesium and B vitamins, each serving contains 100 calories, 6 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber and 1 gram of fat.
