“Fifty-two per cent of households purchase plant-based foods, and more than 60% are trying to incorporate more plant-based foods into their diet, yet have concerns that they’ll sacrifice taste or texture,” said Tara Rozalowsky, vice-president and general manager at Conagra Brands. “Gardein’s strength has always been that we offer a wide variety of delicious plant-based meat alternatives for chicken, beef, pork, fish and seafood. Gardein offers home cooks and chefs alike a great way to make any dish plant-based.”
Coffee and cocoa collide in Conagra Brands’ new Swiss Miss Café Blends. Made with premium imported cocoa and espresso coffee, the drink mixes come in two varieties: caramel macchiato and mocha. Swiss Miss Café Blends contain half the caffeine of one 8-oz cup of brewed coffee and may be made by mixing into hot water or milk.
“We’re happy to introduce a new Swiss Miss cocoa that provides the perfect way to get through the afternoon slump,” said Erik Sword, senior brand manager of sweet treats at Conagra Brands. “We know people are looking for an afternoon pick-me-up, and cocoa is a key part of afternoon snacking. With Swiss Miss Café Blends, we now offer a hot cocoa option that provides a boost without too much caffeine.”
Building on the success of its Power Bowls line, Conagra is introducing Healthy Choice Power Wrap plant-based handhelds that are grain-free and high in protein in such varieties as mango edamame.
“What we’ve basically done here is take the bowl and put it in a wrap,” Mr. Serrao said. “They have all the same nutrients and the taste profile that you enjoy in the bowl, but now in a portable, handheld wrap.”
Conagra is catering to convenience-seeking consumers with new Reddi-wip Nitro Creamer and Sweet Foam. The new Reddi-wip Barista Series products are each made with only six ingredients and deliver flavor notes of vanilla.
Reddi-wip Nitro Creamer may be used in place of traditional coffee creamer in both cold and hot coffee beverages. It adds sweetness and creaminess and “infuses coffee with a rich, velvety texture that takes coffee to a new level,” Conagra said.
Reddi-wip Sweet Foam adds a sweet foam to the top of a beverage without dispersing throughout the liquid. It may be used along with a creamer to increase sweetness, making it ideal for lattes and macchiatos, Conagra said.
“Given the continued strength of coffee sales and the fact that many consumers already use our regular Reddi-wip in their coffee, we saw an exciting opportunity to bring a cream-based innovation to market that would better replicate popular coffee drinks and the coffeehouse experience but in the convenience of home or work,” said Ryan Clark, president of the Refrigerated and Frozen division at Conagra Brands. “The Barista Series gives consumers a coffeehouse experience any time of day, without the coffee shop lines or price.”
Conagra Brands is adding dairy-free creamy ranch and honey poppyseed varieties made with almond milk to its Wish-Bone salad dressings brand.
From Earth Balance, new vegan, keto, Whole30 approved salad dressings will debut in ranch and blue cheese flavors.
Conagra also is extending the Healthy Choice brand into the salad dressing category with new plant-based Power Dressing in three varieties: ranch, green goddess and garden french.
“They’re made out of cauliflower, lentils and white bean, and they’re made out of healthy oil,” Mr. McGough said. “When I started getting deeper into this category, I was shocked to realize that most of the healthy dressings, even those in the natural channel, are made with soybean oil. We won’t do that. These dressings are made with avocado oil. And on Healthy Choice, we know how to add flavor through a great combination of spices.”
