Coca-Cola’s year of innovation
Company catapulting its family of beverage brands into new categories.
Coca-Cola Energy, announced in October and set to hit shelves in January 2020, features a “cola-forward taste” with 114 mg of caffeine per 12-oz serving, plus B vitamins and guarana extracts. Varieties include original, cherry, zero-sugar original and zero-sugar cherry.
The Coca-Cola Co. expanded its Smartwater brand lineup in March with its first flavored varieties in the United States. The company tested more than 20 flavors with consumers and whittled the number down to the final three: Smartwarter Sparkling strawberry blood orange, fuji apple pear and raspberry rose.
Honest Cold Brew Coffee
Coca-Cola’s Honest Tea brand made its first foray into the coffee category with the launch of Honest Cold Brew Coffee at Natural Products Expo East in September. Featuring organic and Fair Trade certified coffee and cane sugar, the bottled beverages are available in three varieties: unsweetened, Cubano and mocha. The lightly sweetened varieties contain 50% less sugar than the leading sweetened ready-to-drink coffee, according to the company.
Simply Tea is a new line of brewed black tea blended with juice in raspberry, lemon and peach flavors.
Smartwater is introducing four varieties that are lightly infused with a hint of fruit or herbal flavors, including pineapple kiwi, strawberry blackberry, cucumber lime and watermelon mint.
Honest Organic Cold Brew Tea
Honest Tea unveiled Honest Organic Cold Brew Tea at Natural Products Expo East in September, marking the brand’s debut in the chilled tea segment. Packaged in multi-serve bottles, flavors include white peach apricot black tea and green tea with jasmine and honey.
Odwalla zero-sugar smoothies
A range of zero-sugar smoothies is debuting under Coca-Cola’s Odwalla brand in three flavors: strawberries and cream, dark chocolate berry and vanilla matcha. The beverages are a good source of protein and designed to appeal to followers of the popular ketogenic diet.
Launching in January, Gomega is a new brand of “superfusion” beverages with omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Flavors include berry acai, strawberry guava and mango passionfruit.
Coca-Cola is introducing a cinnamon cola flavor for the 2019 holiday season.
Dunkin’ Cold Brew Coffee
Coca-Cola is introducing Dunkin’ Cold Brew Coffee, available in two lightly sweetened varieties, caramel black and midnight black, with 30 to 40 calories per serving.
Cherry Vanilla Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola is adding cherry vanilla in regular and zero-sugar options. Cherry vanilla is the most popular combination consumers select on Coca-Cola Freestyle beverage dispense machines.
Piña Colada Fanta
Coca-Cola is debuting Piña Colada Fanta, which taps into a top flavor trend in food and beverage and demonstrated the highest purchase intent of any flavor tested in the history of the Fanta brand.
Orange Vanilla Coca-Cola
In February, Coca-Cola began offering Orange Vanilla Coke and Orange Vanilla Coke Zero Sugar. The beverages are available in 12-oz cans and 20-oz bottles.
Core Power Elite Shake
At the 2019 NACS Show in October, Coca-Cola expanded its Core Power lineup with a new strawberry-flavored Core Power Elite shake with 42 grams of protein. The product features fairlife ultra-filtered milk, which contains 50% more protein and 50% less sugar than regular milk.
Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry
New seasonal Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry combines the brand’s lemon-lime flavor and “crisp refreshment” with a warm spice blend and cranberry tartness.
Peace Tea Mango and Raspberry
Coca-Cola’s Peace Tea brand is adding two new flavors: mango green tea and zero-sugar raspberry.
Diet Coke Blueberry Acai and Strawberry Guava
Two new flavors joined the Diet Coke family in January: Blueberry Acai and Strawberry Guava. The flavors were selected from a shortlist of 20 options and tested with more than 2,000 Americans, Coca-Cola said, and will join Ginger Lime, Feisty Cherry, Zesty Blood Orange and Twisted Mango in the flavored Diet Coke lineup.
