‘Yogurt’ innovators continue to differentiate
Product developers are bringing new yogurts and yogurt alternatives to market.
General Mills debuts keto-friendly dairy snack
Ratio is a keto-friendly dairy snack marketed by General Mills, Inc., Minneapolis. Available in five flavors — black cherry, coconut, mango, strawberry and vanilla — the products have 15 grams of fat, 2 grams of net carbohydrates and 1 gram of sugar.
Fruit and nut snack from Icelandic Provisions
Icelandic Provisions, New York, a maker of skyr, a traditional Icelandic dairy product, is rolling out a new snack featuring fruit and nuts. The new Fruit & Nuts snacks combine whole milk skyr, with almonds and fruit. The snacks are gluten-free and contain 11 grams of protein, 13 grams of fiber, 9 grams of sugar and 170 to 180 calories per serving. Varieties include apple cinnamon with almonds, coconut with almonds and peach apricot with almonds.
Chobani offering a lactose-free variety
Chobani, LLC, Norwich, NY, has introduced Complete, a high-protein, lactose-free yogurt with no added sugar. Sweetened with monk fruit and stevia, the yogurt is available in cup, shake and tub formats. The 5.3-oz cups contain 15 grams of protein, retail for $1.49 and come in blueberry, key lime, vanilla, strawberry, mixed berry and peach flavors. The 10-oz shakes contain 25 grams of protein, retail for $1.99 and are available in banana cream, mixed berry vanilla, strawberry cream and vanilla varieties. The 24-oz tubs contain 17 grams of protein, are available in vanilla and retail for $5.99. Every Chobani Complete product contains 3 grams of fiber, probiotic cultures and prebiotic cultures from chicory root fiber, and is diabetes-friendly and gluten-free.
Drinkable yogurt from noosa
Sovos Brands subsidiary noosa yoghurt LLC, Bellvue, Colo., is entering the drinkable yogurt category with a new line of fruit smoothies. Available in strawberry, strawberry banana, mixed berry and mango flavors, the smoothies combine whole milk yogurt with a puree made from fruit, cane sugar and wildflower honey. Each 7-oz serving contains 160 calories, 5 grams of protein and 6 grams of fat.
Molten Lavva yogurt alternative
Plant-based and keto collide in Molten Lavva, a new vegan yogurt alternative from Lavva, New York. Sweetened with monk fruit, erythritol and mesquite, Molten Lavva is made with a blend of sprouted pili nuts, plantains, coconut and cassava combined with live, vegan probiotic cultures and prebiotic fiber from chicory root fiber. The star ingredient, the pili nut, is a buttery tasting nut that is high in protein, calcium and potassium. The yogurt alternative contains 3 to 4 net carbs per 4-oz cup and comes in four flavors: chocolate, key lime, espresso and chocolate raspberry.
Danone debuts yogurt designed to boost children’s immunity
Danone North America is catering to consumers’ heightened interest in immunity with the launch of Super Danimals, a new low-fat yogurt that claims to support the immune system. Formulated with billions of live and active probiotics plus vitamins C and D, Super Danimals contains 80 calories and 9 grams of sugar per 4-oz cup. The Non-GMO Project verified yogurt is available in blueberry, cherry vanilla and strawberry flavors.
Tillamook Creamery ‘premiumizes’ the yogurt experience
The Tillamook County Creamery Association has introduced a line of premium yogurts the company describes as “not too sweet and not too tart.” The Tillamook Creamery Collection features low-fat yogurt varieties that combine two flavors per cup. Pairings include Oregon strawberry and plain, raspberry and plain, blueberry and vanilla, peach and plain, dark cherry and plain, and vanilla bean and plain.
New investment for yogurt-bar maker
Clio Snacks, Piscataway, NJ, the maker of Greek yogurt bars wrapped in chocolate, has closed on $8 million in additional funding from Alliance Consumer Growth and AF Ventures. Alliance Consumer Growth has been a longtime investor, according to the company. Clio Snacks are available in the refrigerated yogurt aisle of retailers and positioned as a healthy, functional snack. Clio Bars have between 8 and 9 grams of protein and probiotics from the Greek yogurt used in product formulation.
