California Pizza Kitchen introduced a chickpea pizza crust earlier this year. It is formulated with chickpeas, chia seeds and honey, and is gluten-free. The chickpea crust is also lower in carbs and higher in protein and fiber than CPK’s traditional pizza crust, the company said.

Stroopwafel maker Rip Van, Inc. has introduced wafel cookies. Available in Dutch caramel and vanilla and snickerdoodle flavors, the cookies are formulated with chicory root fiber, rice flour, palm oil, cane sugar, butter, eggs, tapioca starch, potato starch, brown rice syrup, chickpea flour, soy flour and monk fruit extract. Each cookie contains 140 calories, 8 grams of fiber, 6 grams of sugar and 15 grams of net carbs, according to the company.

Sundial Foods is offering a plant-based chicken with a “bone” and “skin.” The products are formulated with chickpea protein concentrate, gluten, sunflower oil, soybeans, nutritional yeast, salt and water. A 100-gram serving has 242 calories and 27 grams of protein, according to the company.

Supreme and Plant-Based Cheese frozen chickpea pizzas from Banza

Banza, maker of chickpea-based comfort foods, has expanded its chickpea pizza portfolio with two varieties that feature plant-based ingredients: Supreme, made with Beyond Meat’s plant-based sausage; and Plant-Based Cheese, made with Follow Your Heart dairy-free cheese.

Both pizzas feature Banza’s chickpea crust base, which debuted in October 2020. The crust is made with chickpeas, tapioca, cocoa butter, olive oil, oregano, garlic, salt and date powder.

Hummii Mini Muffins are grain-free and plant-based with no added sugar. Product formulation include chickpea flour, golden flaxseeds, prebiotic fiber and monk fruit extract. Flavors include blueberry, banana bread and double chocolate, which contains black beans.

Goodles is marketed as a healthier variety of macaroni and cheese. The noodles are a combination of wheat and chickpea protein. The prepared meals have 14 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber and nutrients from such vegetables as kale, spinach and maitake mushrooms.

Barilla introduced a chickpea spaghetti this year. A serving provides 11 grams of protein and 8 grams of dietary fiber, according to the company. The company also offers a chickpea rotini as part of its legume-based pasta line.

The King Arthur Baking Co.’s Carb Conscious Pancake Mix is formulated for people following keto or low-carb diets and contains 4 grams of net carbs per serving. The mix is made with vital wheat gluten, chickpea flour, buttermilk and eggs and is sweetened with erythritol. Each two-pancake serving contains 120 calories, 13 grams of protein, 7 grams of fiber and 1 gram of sugar.

Catalina Snacks introduced Catalina Crunch Keto-Friendly Crunch Mixes, a line of low-carb, low-sugar snacks. The mixes combine Catalina Crunch Keto-Friendly Cereal pieces alongside traditional party mix ingredients like cashews, chickpea pretzels, almonds, pecans and cheese crisps. Containing 9 grams of carbs, 4 grams of fiber and 1 gram of sugar or less per serving, the snack mixes come in four varieties: traditional, spicy, Cheddar and creamy ranch.

5 Grain + Seed Oatmeal  from Purely Elizabeth

Purely Elizabeth rolled out 5 Grain + Seed Oatmeal single-serve packets. The oatmeal is formulated with pea protein, chickpea protein, chia, flax, oats, quinoa and amaranth. The oatmeal is available in cinnamon and banana nut flavors. Each packet has 7 grams of protein, according to the company.
