
Winners were crowned at this year’s tradeshow in Indianapolis.
Nerdy Nuts won Best in Show with its avalanche peanut butter treat. The snack features five layers of white chocolate, marshmallow fluff, mini-marshmallows, caramel and crispy gluten-free rice.
Skippy, a brand from Hormel Foods Corp., took home the award for best chocolate snack for its Milk Chocolate PB Minis product. The product is formulated with peanut butter, a crunchy wafer and milk chocolate.
For the first time in the Most Innovative New Product Awards history, there was a tie between two products. Taking home a win in the savory snacks category was Our Home’s You Need This hot cheddar fries and PepsiCo, Inc.’s Doritos Dinamita in the smoky chile queso.
Our Home’s You Need This hot cheddar fries are plant-based, non-GMO and gluten-free. The Doritos Dinamita are rolled chips with a cheesy, smoky and spicy flavor.
Chyler’s won best in the meat snacks category for its Hawaiian beef chips, which features a blend of spices and roasted garlic. The chips are made from thin-sliced beef that has been slow cooked to create a texture that is crunchier than traditional jerky, according to the company.
Chicago-based Mars Wrigley won in the gum and mints category with its Hubba Bubba Mini Gum in Skittles flavor. The mini gum comes in the original flavors of Skittles, including lemon, strawberry, orange, grape and lime.
The Simply Good Foods Co.’s brand Quest won in the baked foods category for its strawberry cake frosted cookies. The soft baked cookies feature 1 gram of sugar, 10 grams of protein and 2 grams of net carbs.
In the novelty category, Amos Sweets Inc. won with its Peelerz gummy banana. The gummy bananas have a peelable outer layer with a softer, solid gel layer on the inside.
Amos Sweets Inc. also won in the non-chocolate category for its Peelerz in a gummy mango flavor.
The winner of best in the small business innovator award was Issei, with its dark chocolate covered strawberry mochi gummies.
In the salty category, Nomad Snacks won with its ramen popcorn. The popcorn is flavored with garlic, ginger, soy, sesame and herbs.
Nerdy Nuts also won in the sweet snacks category for its banana cream pie peanut butter treat, which features white chocolate peanut butter layered on top of fluff and caramel sauce. It’s then topped with banana-infused cream, Nilla Wafers and dried banana chips.
More than 400 products were introduced at the annual event.
Launches over the last year include white chocolate cookies, Pop’ums pretzel snacks and more.
