New breakfast products are tapping into consumer interest in convenience, protein.
Totino’s debuted its first frozen breakfast product with a line of snack bites. The offerings come in pork shoulder bacon and cheese scramble, sausage and cheese scramble, and cheesy chorizo scramble varieties.
Breakfast meal manufacturer Belgian Boys has launched toaster-ready refrigerated griddle pancakes and Belgian chocolate chip pancakes in a bite-size format. Joining the company’s existing line of Belgian waffles, crepes and bite-size pancakes, the products are available at Target stores nationwide.
“Adding Belgian chocolate chips to our bite-sized pancakes was only natural — and you can really taste the richness and quality of our chocolate baked right in,” said Anouck Gotlib, chief executive officer at Belgian Boys. “I am beyond thrilled to bring our new assortment of pancakes to homes across the country — I know they are going to be a big hit with kids and adults alike.”
J.M. Smucker Co. subsidiary Hostess Brands, Inc. combined two of its existing offerings to create HoneyBun Donettes. Mixing the HoneyBuns flavor with the Donettes format, the breakfast snack is made without high-fructose corn syrup, artificial colors and artificial flavors.
“We know that snack lovers are increasingly seeking new flavor combinations, and the melding of distinct tastes and textures offers a unique snacking experience,” said Chris Balach, vice president of marketing for the Sweet Baked Snacks unit at The J.M. Smucker Co. “The Hostess brand continues to lead in delivering mouthwatering innovations like HoneyBun Donettes that satisfy consumers’ cravings and bring joy not only to their breakfast routine, but throughout their day.”
Premier Nutrition Co., LLC and De Wafelbakkers have expanded the Premier Protein portfolio with protein-filled pancake and waffle mixes. Containing 15 grams of protein per serving, the mixes are available in buttermilk and original flavors.
WK Kellogg Co has partnered with Crumbl to introduce Kellogg’s Crumbl Chocolatey Chip Cereal. The cereal is designed to deliver the taste of Crumbl’s signature milk chocolate chip cookie in a ready-to-eat cereal application, the companies said.
“This partnership between Crumbl and Kellogg’s represents a fusion of two brands known for their dedication to delivering exceptional food experiences,” said Sawyer Hemsley, co-founder of Crumbl. “Whether enjoyed for breakfast, as a snack, or as an indulgent treat, Kellogg’s Crumbl Chocolatey Chip Cereal aims to delight consumers with its irresistible flavor profile.”
Frozen waffle startup Evergreen has reformulated its miniature waffle product line. The updated formulation includes more fruit and vegetable powder than previous iterations, with each serving of three waffles containing the equivalent of one full combined serving of fruits and vegetables, and the company swapped honey for maple syrup as its unrefined sweetener.
Flavor varieties include peanut butter banana bread, apple cinnamon cobbler, mixed berry cobbler, zucchini carrot cake and chocolate zucchini bread.
“As a mom, foodie, and founder, I want to feed my family a breakfast that is simple, delicious and made with real ingredients,” said Emily Groden, founder and chief executive officer. “We know mornings are hectic, but we wanted to show how much easier, fun and even nutritious they can be with Evergreen in your freezer.”
General Mills, Inc. is bringing more flavor to three of its ready-to-eat cereal brands with the launch of Loaded. The line features “puffed-up larger-than-life squares” of General Mills’ Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Trix and Cocoa Puffs cereals filled with vanilla crème, according to the company. The cereals contain 180 calories and 12 grams of sugar per 1-cup serving.
“Our fans love discovering new ways to enjoy the flavors of their favorite General Mills cereals and our brands love being part of their morning routine,” said Brandon Tyrrell, senior marketing communications manager at General Mills. “We knew we had an opportunity to bring the brands fans love, but bigger and bolder. Loaded brings even more fun and flavor to the breakfast table to help our fans max out on life starting the moment they wake up.”
Hormel Foods Corp. subsidiary Applegate Farms LLC has debuted a shelf-stable bacon offering. Aimed at consumers seeking convenient and efficient breakfast solutions, Applegate’s latest bacon comes uncured, fully cooked and ready to serve in minutes, according to the company The Applegate Naturals Fully Cooked Sunday Bacon is available for a suggested retail price of $7.99.
“Our classic Sunday Bacon is perfect for long, lazy Sunday morning, and now our Fully Cooked Sunday Bacon is the ideal solution for the other six days of the week,” said Joseph O'Connor, president of Applegate. “Our goal as a company is to serve up everything our consumers are hungry for, and we heard their desire for a fully cooked option that saves on time, waste and clean up.”
Olyra Foods debuted soft-baked, fruit-filled breakfast biscuits. The snacks are formulated with fruit and grains and are available in strawberry and raspberry flavors.
“Perfect for an on-the-go breakfast on the way to school, or a midday pick-me-up, the Olyra fruit-filled biscuits contain legible, worry-free ingredients that will still satisfy your morning sweet tooth,” Olyra said. “Made with grains such as spelt, lupine, barley and oats, these delectable bites steer clear of nasty ingredients to provide sustainable energy, nutrients and a fiber-filled snack.”
WK Kellogg Co unveiled a new vegan cereal called Eat Your Mouth Off. Available in fruity and chocolate flavors, the puffed cereal contains 22 grams of plant-based protein and 0 grams of sugar per serving.
Product innovations were on full display at the March trade show.
New items include sweet heat chicken products and tropical-inspired beverages.
