Menu inclusions feature limited-time offerings.
California Pizza Kitchen launched Nashville-style hot honey pizza in collaboration with Mike’s Hot Honey for a limited time. The pizza includes hand-battered chicken, ranchito sauce and mozzarella cheese topped with cayenne seasoning, dill pickles and Mike’s Hot Honey extra hot sauce. The company also is reintroducing pumpkin cheesecake as part of its fall seasonal offerings.
Chipotle has begun product testing for its chipotle honey chicken at 80 locations in the Nashville and Sacramento markets. The menu innovation features chicken marinated in smoked adobo peppers, seasoned with a Mexican spice blend and finished with honey. The “swicy” chicken previously was taste tested by consumers and “achieved the highest marks of any chicken innovation that Chipotle has sensory tested,” according to the company.
“Consumers have clearly shown their enthusiasm for sweet heat flavor combinations,” Chris Brandt, chief brand officer for Chipotle. “We have had tremendous success with 'swicy' innovations and believe Chipotle Honey Chicken will capture fans.”
Panera is debuting five new baked items: almond pastries with an almond filling topped with icing and sliced almonds; cherry pastries with cherry filling and topped with icing; cranberry orange slice, a cake with cranberry and sweet orange flavor notes, sour cream and course sugar; coconut macaroons; and chocolate coconut macaroons.
Additionally, the restaurant chain is further expanding its breakfast sandwich menu with bacon, egg and cheese croissants, sausage, egg and cheese croissants, and egg and cheese croissants.
“We are continuing to transform our menu in line with guest preferences and are excited to offer even more delicious reasons to visit Panera,” said Alicia Mowder, senior vice president of product strategy and insights for Panera Bread.
Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is adding three returning offerings to its menu: the grilled cheese steakburger, pumpkin pie concrete and pumpkin pie shake. The company also has launched tater tots and a caramel apple pie concrete variety. The limited-time offerings are available now through Oct. 22.
Krispy Kreme has partnered with soda brand Dr Pepper to create the Krispy Kreme x Dr Pepper Kickoff Collection, a series of football-inspired donuts. The collection includes the Dr Pepper kickoff donut, a glazed donut with Dr Pepper-flavored frosting, a burgundy sprinkle blend and a white chocolate Dr Pepper logo; the Buttercreme Goals donut, a glazed donut dipped in green icing and topped with yellow buttercreme in the shape of a goalpost; and the returning filled football donut, an unglazed donut dipped in chocolate icing filled with white cream and decorated to resemble a football.
“Two of America’s most loved flavors are about to become one amazing gameday sensation,” said Dave Skena, global chief brand officer for Krispy Kreme.
Smoothie King is building off the success of its smoothie bowl line with two new coconut bowls. The plant-based bowls feature a gluten- and dairy-free formulation designed as a convenient, better-for-you option for on-the-go snacking. Coconut bowl flavors include Go Coconuts, a coconut base topped with granola, sliced bananas, diced strawberries, blueberries and a chocolate hazelnut drizzle, and Coco Colada, a coconut base topped with granola, diced pineapple and strawberries, blueberries and a honey drizzle.
Convenience store chain Casey’s is expanding its breakfast menu with the return of the ultimate waffle breakfast sandwich. The product features sausage, bacon and eggs sandwiched between two waffles to merge sweet and savory flavor notes, according to the company. Casey’s sandwich is set to roll out in stores beginning Sept. 4 and will be available for a limited time.
“Since introducing the Ultimate Waffle Breakfast Sandwich last fall for a limited time, we were inundated with requests to bring it back,” said Tom Brennan, chief merchandising officer at Casey’s.
Bojangles, Inc. has unveiled its limited-time chicken wings ahead of the National Football League season. Flavor varieties include classic, barbecue and Buffalo, and the wings are served alongside the company’s new permanent house-made ranch. Bojangles chicken wings are available in quantities of 20, 40 and 60 wings, or as individual meal additions.
