Halloween-inspired products are launching across the retail and foodservice sectors.
The Hershey Co. is launching four original Halloween confections this year. Innovations include Kit Kat Ghost Toast, with wafers wrapped in a cinnamon toast flavored creme; Reese's Werewolf Tracks, a combination of vanilla-flavored creme, milk chocolate and peanut butter; Twizzlers Ghosts, cherry-flavored chewy candies in a ghost-shaped format; and special-edition Hershey's Milk Chocolate Harry Potter Bar in a snack sized variety.
Restaurant International Brands subsidiary Burger King has partnered with Amazon MGM Studios to create a line of menu items inspired by “The Addams Family” animated films ahead of Halloween.
Wednesday’s Whopper includes a beef patty, Swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles, and onions on top of a purple bun with black sesame seeds. Gomez’s churro fries are coated in cinnamon sugar and paired with chocolate dipping sauce. Morticia’s chocolate shake combines chocolate soft serve and chocolate cake batter fudge topped with black and purple cookie pieces.
Good Humor, a Unilever frozen novelty brand, is bringing back its candy core innovation. The Good Humor Candy Center Bar features a chocolate candy core with hazelnut flavor notes surrounded by vanilla frozen dessert and a chocolate outer shell to create a multi-textured eating experience, according to the company.
"The Candy Center Bar unites ice cream lovers young and old with its remixed twist on a 90s favorite from Good Humor,” said Bentley King, head of US ice cream operations at Unilever.
Tim Hortons is releasing its Halloween seasonal line with the new Chocolate Peanut Butter Iced Cap with Reese’s and three returning snacks. The beverage combines frozen blended coffee with peanut butter and chocolate flavors and a topping of crushed Reese’s peanut butter cups. Tim Hortons consumers also will be able to enjoy peanut butter cookies stuffed with pecans and topped with Reese’s peanut butter cups, sugar cookies filled with white chocolate chips and M&M miniature candies and Timbits Trick-or-Treat Buckets.
Krispy Kreme has partnered with Sony Pictures to celebrate Halloween and the 40th anniversary of the “Ghostbusters” movie franchise with The Krispy Kreme x Ghostbusters Collection.
The collection includes the Ghostbusters Cookies N’ Creme Doughnut, a glazed donut dipped in chocolate icing, topped with Oreo pieces, a buttercreme and a No Ghost logo candy; the Slimer Doughnut, an unglazed donut with lemon flavored green filling and topped with purple and green icing; the Ecto-Sprinkled Doughnut, a glazed donut dipped in orange colored icing and coated with neon sprinkles; and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Doughnut Pull-Apart, Krispy Kreme donut dots topped with marshmallow flavored buttercreme and a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man candy.
Dunkin’ is taking part in the holiday season with a line of Halloween-inspired menu items. The Potion Macchiato blends espresso and milk with marshmallow ube flavors in a “eye-catching” purple color, according to the company, and is available either hot or iced.
Dunkin’ also is putting a spin on its spider donut with the spider specialty donut, featuring purple frosting, a glazed chocolate Munchkins Donut Hole topping and chocolate drizzle for spider legs and white drizzle forming the eyes.
Fast casual restaurant chain McAlister’s Deli has debuted a line of Halloween-inspired limited time offerings which includes the Witch's Brew beverage and Trick-or-Treat cookie. Witch’s Brew features lemonade made with cane sugar, lemon juice and caramel apple syrup, and the cookie combines a buttery base with a cream cheese filling and orange and purple sprinkles.
Hostess Brands has debuted FrankenCakes, a Halloween-inspired baked treat. The FrankenCakes feature soft yellow cake and crème filling topped with green icing.
Fast-food hamburger chain White Castle is offering Halloween Jalapeño Cheese Sliders. The frozen burgers, available in 16-count packages, deliver a blend of “bold and spicy” flavor notes for heat lovers, according to the company.
