Protein-focused introductions are on the rise across numerous categories.
Oikos, a Danone North America subsidiary, launched Oikos Protein Shakes. The beverages feature 30 grams of protein, 5 grams of prebiotic fiber and 1 gram of sugar per serving in a shelf-stable format. Flavors include chocolate, vanilla and salted caramel.
Purely Elizabeth has developed a line of protein oatmeal. The oatmeal is made with a blend of oats, quinoa and buckwheat and flavored with dried fruit. Purely Elizabeth’s protein oatmeal contains 10 grams of plant-based protein per serving, with flavors like apple harvest crumble, cinnamon chip banana bread and maple cinnamon roll.
“With the launch of our new protein oatmeal, I hope to offer a convenient, nourishing breakfast that truly supports our community’s wellness goals,” said Elizabeth Stein, founder and chief executive officer of Purely Elizabeth.
Joyfull Bakery, a baked foods brand owned by Raison D’etre bakery, introduced a line of crisps marketed as protein rich. The Parmesan thin crisps feature 11 grams of protein and 1 gram of total carbohydrates per serving. Varieties include original Parmesan, five seed, cracked pepper, pretzel crunch and cheddar.
“We see a growing opportunity in the snack category for on-the-go options that deliver both convenience and craftsmanship,” said Mike Draper, vice president of sales at Joyfull Bakery. “With our oven-baked, aged Parmesan snacks, we’re filling a gap for those seeking a premium, artisan-baked alternative — made with simple, high-quality ingredients.”
Glanbia Performance Nutrition unveiled Think! crispy squares, a line of protein bars with 15 grams of protein per serving. Each bar also contains between 140 to 160 calories, and flavors include marshmallow crunch, chocolate crunch and toffee pretzel crunch.
“More than two-thirds of Americans are looking to increase their protein intake, and just as many are drawn to food and beverages that offer comfort through nostalgic flavors and packaging,” said Erica Morris, brand director at Think!. “We created Think!’s Crispy Squares for people who want easy, delicious, high protein snacks.”
Beyond Meat, Inc. added to its portfolio of plant-based alternatives with Beyond Chicken Pieces. The chicken alternative features an un-breaded, bite-size format formulated with avocado oil. One serving of Beyond’s chicken pieces contains 21 grams of plant protein and 0.5 grams of saturated fat.
“Beyond Chicken Pieces reflect our commitment to ingredient integrity and outsized nutritional benefits, boasting 21 grams of plant protein together with heart-healthy avocado oil,” said Ethan Brown, founder and chief executive officer of Beyond Meat.
Khloud, a snack brand startup founded by American media personality Khloé Kardashian, debuted its flagship product: Khloud Protein Popcorn. Available in olive oil and sea salt, sweet and salty kettle corn, and white cheddar flavors, the product features 7 grams of protein per serving. Khloud Protein Popcorn is formulated from a blend of whole grain corn and “Khloud Dust,” a blend of milk proteins and seasonings.
Mondelez International, Inc. debuted a new variety of reduced sugar protein bars under its Clif Builders line. Each bar contains 16 grams of protein and 5 grams of sugar, almond salted caramel and peanut butter chocolate flavors. Additionally, the company launched an Oreo-flavored variety under its Builders line, with 20 grams of protein.
“With our Builders protein bars, we're focused on delivering purposefully crafted high-protein fuel options and developing indulgent products without artificial sweeteners," said Saurabh Kaushik, director of brand marketing at Mondelez. “We're introducing Reduced Sugar Crispy Protein Bars, offering 5 grams of sugar per bar, for those looking for delicious protein fuel with less sugar to help power their active day.”
Pasta Rummo unveiled a line of high-protein pastas with Maxima. The product is formulated using durum wheat semolina and features 21 grams of protein per serving derived from yellow peas. The Maxima line includes pasta varieties like linguine and elbow noodles.
Farm Rich, a Rich Products Corp. subsidiary, added to its frozen food portfolio with several protein-centric breakfast items. Product introductions include sausage stuffed biscuits, a biscuit-style pocket filled with sausage, eggs and cheddar cheese to deliver 12 grams of protein per serving; bacon breakfast roll-ups, featuring eggs, Monterey Jack cheese and bacon wrapped inside of a tortilla with 10 grams of protein per serving; cinnamon french toast sticks with 13 grams of protein per serving; and loaded hash brown bites with 7 grams of protein per serving.
“With our new breakfast lineup, we’re bringing the same deliciousness and convenience people love from Farm Rich frozen snacks into the breakfast space — plus with a powerful boost of protein to fuel the most hectic of days,” said Kelly Rabinowitz, director of marketing for frozen retail brands at Rich Products Corp.
Mush expanded its line of ready-to-eat overnight oats with protein overnight oats. Made with whole grains, each serving of the oats contains 15 grams of protein. Flavor varieties include peanut butter and jelly and peanut butter banana to cookies and cream and chocolate brownie.
Nearly 2,500 companies exhibited at the annual event hosted by the Specialty Food Association.
