Chicken-based offerings are on the rise.
Taco Bell, a Yum! Brands subsidiary, has expanded its chicken portfolio with crispy chicken strips. The limited-time strips are made using white meat chicken, a jalapeño buttermilk marinade and breading derived from tortilla chips and breadcrumbs. Taco Bell’s chicken strips will be sold as a standalone item or combined with other formats to create crispy chicken tacos and crispy chicken burritos.
Chipotle Mexican Grill has expanded its lineup of dipping sauces with adobo ranch. Tapping into the increased popularity of ranch condiments and dips, the adobo ranch is formulated with adobo pepper, sour cream and a blend of herbs and spices, according to the company. The dip offers smoky and spicy flavor notes meant to be paired with burritos, bowls, salads, tacos and quesadillas.
“Ranch has become a cultural phenomenon, especially among Gen Z, who are finding creative ways to enjoy it beyond the traditional salad," said Chris Brandt, president and chief brand officer at Chipotle. "Our new adobo ranch taps into this passion, giving fans a crave-worthy way to customize their Chipotle order with a completely new flavor."
California Pizza Kitchen has introduced a permanent collection of summer salads. The menu items include charcuterie salad, with mixed greens, basil, mustard herb vinaigrette, applewood smoked ham, salami, Brie cheese, Parmesan cheese, green apples and candied walnuts; crispy Chinese dumpling salad, with Napa and red cabbage, cucumber strips, carrots, chicken dumplings, honey-miso dressing, scallions and cilantro; and steakhouse salad, with baby arugula, chopped lettuce, cherry tomatoes, red onions, Gorgonzola cheese, smashed potatoes, filet mignon pieces and Dijon balsamic vinaigrette.
“Building on the momentum of our recent 40th anniversary brand refresh, we’re leaning even further into the differentiated menu innovation,” said Dawn Keller, chief marketing officer at CPK. “Salads have always been a hugely popular category at CPK, so we’re proud to expand and diversify our menu to help guests find their newest favorite dish.”
Following its removal from menus in 2016, McDonald's has reintroduced the snack wrap as a permanent offering. The item will feature the company’s recently launched McCrispy Strips, shredded cheese and shredded lettuce, with flavor varieties like spicy and ranch.
Specialty coffee and tea house the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has unveiled a line of seasonal beverage innovations inspired by nostalgic flavors. Available through mid-August, the lineup ranges from the Ultimate Cold Brew Ice Blended drink, made with chocolate-covered espresso beans, a chocolate drizzle and whipped cream, to the Ube Coconut Affogato Ice Blended drink, a blend of ube and coconut with a shot of espresso and whipped cream topping.
The line also includes two caramel mocha blended beverages.
Culver’s is jumping on the fast-food chicken trend with a revitalized line of chicken sandwiches. The renewed offerings feature an improved chicken filet, crunchier pickle slices, an original brioche bun, mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato, according to the company. Varieties include crispy chicken, spicy crispy chicken and grilled chicken.
“We know the love our guests have for chicken, so we wanted to give them new chicken sandwich options that are undeniably delicious," said Kasey McDonald, head of culinary at Culver's. "Every little detail is improved — from the juiciness of the chicken to the soft, new brioche bun it sits on.”
Jack in the Box has partnered with Mondelez International, Inc. to develop a series of Sour Patch Kids watermelon beverages. Inspired by the candy’s tart flavor, the limited-time drinks include a watermelon shake, watermelon twisted lemon lime soda, watermelon lemonade and a watermelon slushie.
Restaurant Brands International, Inc. chicken chain Popeyes has debuted its first ever wrap offering. Made with a Popeyes chicken tender, lettuce, shredded cheese, pickles, a flour tortilla, and either classic, spicy or honey mustard spreads, the wraps will be available for a limited time.
The company also has launched a line of blueberry-flavored beverages inspired by seasonal flavor trends. The launch includes blueberry lemonade, blueberry cane sweet tea and blueberry unsweet tea.
Nearly 2,500 companies exhibited at the annual event hosted by the Specialty Food Association.
