New snacking innovations are heavy on the crunch.
Hippeas expanded its line of snacks with the launch of Flavor Blast! Chickpea Puffs in two flavors: vegan white cheddar explosion and blazin’ hot. The snacks feature 3 to 4 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber per 1-oz serving.
“Our dedication to perfecting these extra flavor recipes reflects our commitment to surpassing consumer expectations of what a better-for-you product can taste like,” said Julia Hecht, chief marketing officer at Hippeas. “Parents (and grown-up snackers) love Hippeas puffs because they are a kid-requested go-to snack made with real, simple ingredients. Frito-Lay, Inc., a subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc., launched chocolate glazed donut popcorn through its pre-popped, flavored popcorn brand Smartfood. The snack is air-popped and made with a chocolate-flavored kettle coating, combining “everything there is to love about a chocolate glazed donut, in the ultimate sweet, salty, and crunchy bite, according to the company.”
The Smartfood chocolate glazed donut popcorn also joins the brand’s line of limited-time offerings and is the second donut-inspired flavor to join the roster after the Krispy Kreme glazed donut popcorn from 2021.
Fair and Square Crackers are seeking to be a healthier snack for consumers facing dietary restrictions.
Alex Duong, founder, formulated the crackers with the intent of improving the consumers’ overall gut health. The crackers are gluten-free and plant-based. The main ingredient making the crackers gut-friendly is green banana flour, due to its high fiber content that supports healthy digestion.

The Hain Celestial Group expanded its Garden Veggie Snacks line with Flavor Burst tortilla chips in nacho cheese and zesty ranch flavors. The tortilla chips are gluten-free and feature five vegetables: spinach, beet, red bell pepper, carrot and tomato.
“The snacks aisle is crowded with tortilla chips that are viewed as a guilty pleasure,” said Ed Kaiser, senior director of marketing. “Meanwhile, the few better-for-you tortilla chip options that are available, are often marketed toward adults or specialty diets, such as Keto or low carb. Flavor Burst delivers on the unmet consumer need for a delicious, better-for-you snack that both kids and parents will reach for.”
Frito-Lay North America debuted a new Cheetos flavor ahead of this year’s Super Bowl, inspired by the popular football watch party food. Cheetos Crunchy Buffalo merges the flavor notes of classic Cheetos cheese with Buffalo sauce made from aged cayenne red pepper, vinegar, salt and garlic.
Kellanova unveiled the latest addition to its Cheez-It brand: Cheez-It Extra Crunchy crackers. The company said the new snack product is meant to appeal to consumers who are looking for even crunchier snack options. The extra-crunchy Cheez-Its are available in bold cheddar and sharp white cheddar flavors.
“Our fans trust us to deliver a classically crunchy taste with all of our crackers, but we wanted to turn up the volume with Cheez-It Extra Crunchy,” said Cara Tragseiler, senior brand director for Cheez-It. “With a generous sprinkle of seasoning and a multisensory crunch, these two new products will deliver on fan demand for an even louder, flavorful way to snack on their favorite crackers.”
Crisp Power, the latest launch from Meir Bagel, is planning to launch protein pretzels in 2024. The pretzel product boasts maximum protein paired with minimal carbs, catering to carb-conscious consumers who often look to boost protein intake as a substitute for a high-starch diet, according to Meir Bagel.
