PURCHASE, N.Y. — PepsiCo, Inc. has begun 2020 with a whirlwind of innovation across four of its mainstay brands. Just in January, the company has launched new Mtn Dew, Cheetos, Lay’s and Doritos products.
On Jan. 9, PepsiCo introduced Mtn Dew Zero Sugar, a new carbonated beverage that offers “all the bold charge and flavor of the original Mtn Dew, now without any sugar,” the company said.
The new Dew is sweetened with a blend of aspartame, acesulfame potassium and sucralose and contains 0 calories and 95 mg of caffeine per 16.9-oz serving. Mtn Dew Zero Sugar is available in 20-oz bottles, 2-liter bottles, 12-packs of 12-oz cans and other single and multipack sizes.
“This is a big moment for Dew,” said Nicole Portwood, vice-president of marketing for Mtn Dew. “We are excited to give customers a zero-sugar offering. Because our fans are uncompromising with the Dew they know and love, we knew we had to pull off a formulation that would preserve the great taste of the original. Mtn Dew Zero Sugar delivers on a bold flavor and ever-evolving consumer preferences.”
Also on Jan. 9, PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay North America division introduced a new popcorn snack featuring Cheetos “Cheetle” seasoning. The ready-to-eat popcorn is available in Cheddar (7-oz bags) and Flamin’ Hot (6.6-oz bags) varieties for a suggested retail price of $3.99, respectively. The snack also will be available in 2-oz bags for $1.89.
“We’ve seen the way Cheetos lovers don their red- and orange-dusted fingers like a badge of honor, and we’re always looking for ways to help them step up their snacking game,” said Brandi Ray, senior director of marketing for Frito-Lay North America. “The only way to truly take popcorn to the next level is to add the iconic Cheetle, the cheesy dust that will entice Cheetos fans to snack on this popcorn all year long.”
On Jan. 8, the company added a trio of new chip flavors to its Lay’s portfolio: Lay’s cheddar jalapeño potato chips, Lay’s Poppables sea salt and vinegar, and Lay’s Kettle Cooked Flamin’ Hot. The cheddar jalapeño chips, retail for $3.79 per 7.75-oz bag and $1.89 per 2.625-oz bag, the sea salt and vinegar Poppables retail for $3.79 per 5-oz bag, and the Kettle Cooked Flamin’ Hot chips retail for $3.49 per 8-oz bag and $1.89 per 2.5-oz bag.
On Jan. 7, PepsiCo unveiled two new Doritos products featuring remixes of favorite flavors: Doritos Flamin’ Hot Limon and Doritos Cool Ranch with enhanced Cool Ranch flavor.
“Doritos is known for making bold, innovative moves — whether it’s new movie partnerships, e-sports tournaments, an ad without logos, and of course new flavors,” said Leslie Vesper, senior director of marketing for Frito-Lay North America. “The release of Doritos Flamin’ Hot Limon and the revamped Doritos Cool Ranch are two entirely new ways for fans to enjoy our beloved legacy flavors.”
Doritos Flamin’ Hot Limon and Doritos Cool Ranch are both available in 9.75-oz bags for a suggested retail price of $4.29 and 2.75-oz bags for a suggested retail price of $1.89.
