SEATTLE — Plant-based cheesemaker Good Planet Foods closed a $12 million Series A funding round led by Cleveland Ventures, with participation from GreatPoint Ventures, Tasseo Consumer, Stray Dog Capital and Lever VC.
The company’s dairy-free cheeses are made from coconut oil, potato starch and natural flavorings. Varieties include shredded mozzarella, Parmesan and cheddar along with sliced American, garlic and herb, smoked provolone, cheddar and hot pepper. The non-GMO, vegan, kosher and halal certified products are available at major retailers, including Walmart, Costco, Wegmans and Whole Foods.
Funds from the round will accelerate product development, sales and marketing.

The company made headlines in March when it teamed up with White Castle to launch the burger chain’s first-ever non-dairy cheese alternative.
