SINGAPORE — Thai Union Group seeks to partner with startups developing ocean-derived ingredients and applications. The company, in collaboration with the organizers of the Future Food-Tech event series, is launching an Innovation Challenge that will culminate in a live pitch event at the Asia-Pacific Agri-Food Innovation Summit on Oct. 31 in Singapore.
Previously, The Kraft Heinz Co., Danone North America, Givaudan, Puratos, Kellogg Co., Unilever, Roquette and Quorn Foods have introduced similar initiatives with Rethink Events. Startups may apply for the latest installment at agrifoodinnovation.com/thai-union-innovation-challenge through Aug. 16, and selected finalists will present their ideas to a panel of Thai Union executives.
Thai Union is interested in concepts spanning healthy, functional marine-derived ingredients; seaweed or algae-derived ingredients promoting health and wellness, functional applications of marine-based oils; and ingredients produced using precision fermentation that otherwise would be sourced from the sea. Solutions must have a link to the ocean.
The winner of the challenge will receive support and guidance from Thai Union’s global innovation team, including technical expertise, regulatory assistance and formulation development.
Senior executives from Thai Union’s global innovation team will discuss the challenge and provide additional details during a webinar on Aug. 7.
Thai Union produces shelf-stable, chilled and frozen foods that are sold across North America, Europe, Asia and the Pacific. Brands include Chicken of the Sea, John West, Petit Navire, Parmentier, Mareblu, King Oscar and others.Enjoying this content? Learn about more disruptive startups on the Food Entrepreneur page.
