KANSAS CITY — “Crispy” and "crunchy" claims are commandeering the snack aisle. Several new products hitting the shelves boast a crunchy, crispy composition.

The Hershey Co. is adding crunch to the peanut butter cup with its new Reese’s Crunchy Cookie Cup, a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup stuffed with crunchy chocolate cookie bits.

Cake goes crispy in new innovation from the Mrs. Freshley’s brand of Flowers Foods, Inc. New Mrs. Freshley’s Cake Crisps are thin, crunchy, sweet cake-flavored chips in vanilla and chocolate varieties. Available in single-serving 2-oz bags, the crisps were inspired by the growing popularity of sweet, satisfying, shareable and unique snacks, the company said.

“Mrs. Freshley’s is thrilled to add such an innovative product to our snack portfolio,” said Meredith Butler, brand manager for Flowers Foods. “This is unlike any product we’ve ever released, and the portability of the packaging make Cake Crisps an ideal snack time treat.”

Fruit gets a crunchy makeover in new Snack Factory Fruit Sticks from Snyder’s-Lance. Made from fruit, the crispy snacks are gluten-free, Non-GMO Project verified and free from added sugars and preservatives. Fruit Sticks are available in three varieties: Apple, apple cinnamon and apple strawberry.

Additionally, La Brea Bakery is launching a new line of artisan Flatbread Crisps, World Peas is introducing Favarites Fava Crisps in cracked pepper and white cheddar varieties, and Primizie is debuting its line of Organic Sprouted Grains Crispbreads.
