New Plum Organics baby food features kale, quinoa

EMERYVILLE, CALIF. — Sweet potato, kale, quinoa, pomegranate and Greek yogurt are among ingredients used in a new line of baby food from Plum Organics, a division of the Campbell Soup Co.

The Mighty 4 line of organic pouch snacks for toddlers delivers fiber, whole grains and omega-3s. Varieties include sweet potato with blueberry and millet; kale with strawberry and amaranth; spinach with kiwi and barley; purple carrot with blackberry and quinoa; and pumpkin with pomegranate and quinoa. Each variety also contains Greek yogurt. The products are made without artificial colors or flavors, added sugar or salt or bioengineered ingredients.

The Mighty 4 line is available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $1.79.

Minute Rice label extended

HOUSTON — Riviana Foods Inc. has added three new products under the Minute Rice label: multi-grain medley, ready-to-serve black beans and rice, and ready-to-serve fried rice mix.

Minute multi-grain medley is the first extension to the brand’s instant rice flagship line, which also contains Minute whole grain brown and Minute white rice. A blend of four gluten-free foods, Minute multi-grain medley is made with whole grains, including brown rice, Thai red rice, wild rice and quinoa. The rice has 43 grams of whole grains per serving, and the rice contains nearly 90% of the daily recommended serving of whole grains.

“The quick-cooking medley has a slightly chewy, nutty flavor and is pre-portioned in four separate bags for ease of preparation,” Riviana Foods said. “It cooks in only 10 minutes, making it a great breakfast option or a nutritious go-to for any weeknight meal.”

According to Riviana Foods, Minute ready-to-serve black beans and rice is the only ready-to-serve rice option that offers beans separate from rice. The rice is ready in 90 seconds, and it has 5 grams of fiber per serving. The Latin-inspired beans and sauce include tomatoes, onions, green and red peppers.

Minute ready-to-serve fried rice mix combines a mix of rice, peas, carrots, onions, soy sauce and other seasonings.

Jack Link’s launches barbecue pork jerky

MINONG, WIS. – Barbecue pork jerky joins Jack Link’s line of meat snacks. With 12 grams of protein per serving, the product features cuts of seasoned and smoked lean pork with no added M.S.G.

Jack Link’s BBQ Pork Jerky is available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $6.99 to $7.99.

Passage Foods introduces Mexican simmer sauces

COLLINSVILLE, CONN. — Traditional Mexican flavors inspired the latest line of simmer sauces from Passage Foods USA, an affiliate of Flavour Makers Pty. Ltd, an Australian sauce manufacturer. Certified gluten-free, preservative-free Passage to Mexico sauces include three varieties: Ranchero, a blend of tomato, chili and onions; Veracruz, a spicy, tangy combination of virgin olive oil, tomatoes, Spanish olives and capers; and Chipotle Lime, which as a spicy, smoky flavor of chipotle chili with a hint of lime.

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — Unilever U.S., Inc. is expanding its Hellmann’s portfolio with a creamy balsamic mayonnaise dressing, made with cage-free eggs, oil and aged, sweet balsamic vinegar.

McCormick debuts steak sauces

SPARKS, MD. — McCormick & Co. makes its first-ever foray into steak sauces with Grill Mates Steak Sauces in two varieties. The Montreal Steak flavor contains coarsely ground pepper, red pepper, dill and coriander, while the Smoky Montreal variety includes an added smoky flavor. The sauces contain no artificial colors, preservatives or high-fructose corn syrup.

The line is available nationwide.

Sausage company expands private label options

MANITOWOC, WIS. — The Cher-Make Sausage Co. is adding three private label offerings, including a chicken bratwurst, a beer bratwurst made with Point Amber Beer and an applewood-smoked bacon natural casing wiener.

“These three new products celebrate some of what is best about Wisconsin — traditional flavors done with a new twist to meet the tastes and desires of today’s consumer,” said Tom Chermak, president.

Frito-Lay reinvents Ruffles

PLANO, TEXAS — Frito-Lay, a division of PepsiCo, Inc., is launching Ruffles Crispy Fries Potato Strips, french fry-shaped potato snacks with a crunchy texture. Available in original and cheese-flavored, the product may consumed from the bag like chips or microwaved for a fresh-from-the-fryer feel.

Ruffles Crispy Fries are available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $1.09 per 1-oz bag.

Kellogg’s unveils Kashi soups, Eggo Wafflers

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. — Kellogg Co. is adding new frozen products to its Kashi and Eggo portfolios.

Frozen soups debut under the Kashi brand in Moroccan Minestrone and Savory Chicken Noodle flavors. With such ingredients as kale, chickpeas, zucchini and quinoa, the soups contain 6 to 12 grams of fiber and 11 to 16 grams of protein per serving.

Chocolatey Chip Muffin joins the lineup of Eggo Wafflers tear-apart waffle bars, which also includes strawberry strudel and brown sugar cinnamon roll varieties.

The new products will be available nationwide beginning this summer.

Four flavors join Muller yogurt line

CHICAGO — Muller Quaker Dairy, a joint venture between the Theo Muller Group, a dairy processor based in Germany, and PepsiCo, Inc., is adding four yogurts.

Orange and mango join the flavors of Muller FrutUp lowfat yogurt with a layer of whipped fruit mousse. Pineapple passion fruit and mango varieties extend the Muller Greek Corner line, which features lowfat Greek-style yogurt with a compartment for toppings.

All Muller yogurt products are made with reduced-fat, Grade A milk and contain 140 to 220 calories per serving.

The new varieties are available nationwide beginning in July.

Gluten-free macaroni and cheese hits shelves

NEWBURYPORT, MASS. — Good Tastes Kitchen, L.L.C., a maker of frozen meals, is launching gluten-free frozen macaroni and cheese in four-cheese and caramelized onion and herb varieties.

The products feature al dente rice noodles with such ingredients as cheddar, Monterey jack, Parmesan, ricotta and gorgonzola cheeses and topped with a gluten-free panko crust. The products are available on-line and at select retailers nationwide.

Snikiddy adds kale to vegetable snack chips

BOULDER, COLO. — Snikiddy has reformulated its Eat Your Vegetables snack chips to include kale on its ingredient list, which also features broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots and shitake mushrooms. A serving of the gluten-free chips contains 3 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein from a proprietary blend of beans and brown rice. Flavors include sea salt, sour cream and onion, jalapeño ranch, Italian herb and olive oil, and sea salt and lime. Thai Kitchen marks foray into frozen

HUNT VALLEY, MD. — Making its freezer-case debut, Thai Kitchen is introducing five frozen entrees with classic Thai flavors. Varieties include chicken pad Thai, chicken green curry, chicken red curry, vegetable green curry and vegetable red curry.

The product line features such ingredients as rice noodles, crisp vegetables and sauces prepared with Thai-style herbs and spices.
