ST. LOUIS – Panera Bread on Jan. 6 said its entire U.S. bakery-café soup menu no longer contains artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners and preservatives found on a “no no list” the company revealed last year.

“I want to create soups that our guests will love, and equally important, I want them to understand and feel confident in the ingredients that go into those soups,” said Dan Kish, head chef for St. Louis-based Panera Bread. “We’ve long been advocates of transparency, providing full ingredient information on-line, and with these new recipes we have even more to be proud of today.”

Mr. Kish said the new recipes took time. The broccoli cheddar recipe was revised 60 times. A 60-second video trailer will share the story behind the remake of the broccoli cheddar soup. Panera Bread also is a retailer of packaged refrigerated soups that are found in about 10,000 club and grocery stores in the United States. The retail soup varieties should be free of all “no no list’ additives by the end of 2016, according to Panera Bread.
