The list of upcycled ingredients being used is growing.
Take Two Foods is selling Barleymilk in retail stores and coffee shops in the Pacific Northwest and Los Angeles. The beverage is available in four flavors, including original, vanilla, chocolate and Chef’s Blend, and boasts a flavor and functionality comparable to dairy milk, according to the company.
The new product is made using upcycled barley left over from the beer brewing process. It contains complete protein, fiber, calcium, good fats, and has 50% less sugar than other flavored plant-based milks, the company said.
Hidden Gems Beverage Co. is the maker behind Reveal, a beverage made from avocado seeds that are upcycled from avocado processing. Using a patented process, the seeds are brewed to create a non-carbonated beverage that has three-times the antioxidants of green tea. The product is available in 12-oz bottles and in several flavors, including grapefruit and lavender, mango and ginger, and rose and mint.
