New mashups combine flavors and textures.
Alter Eco Foods is introducing a new chocolate collection. Truffle Thins Dark Chocolate Bars are made with organic ingredients, including coconut oil, cocoa butter, raw cane sugar and natural flavors. Varieties include Classic Dark, Salted Caramel, Mint Crème and Silk Velvet.
“Love for our dark chocolate bars and truffles grows by the day, so we thought: why not put the two together?” said Mike Forbes, chief executive officer. “Our team found a way to create a product expressly for our consumer that is not only delicious but stays true to Alter Eco’s mission of going beyond organic to support restoration of forest ecosystems where cacao grows.”
Mike’s Hot Honey has collaborated with French mustard maker Maille to introduce Maille Hot Honey Dijon made with Mike’s Hot Honey. The condiment is sweet, spicy, creamy and tangy, according to the companies, and may be used for dipping, as a sandwich topping or in a vinaigrette.
“The Mike’s Hot Honey team has always loved Maille mustard,” said Mike Kurtz, founder of Mike’s Hot Honey. “When I tasted the final product, I was completely blown away by the harmony of the two flavors. We’re excited to have contributed to a new product that combines the best aspects of both Maille’s mustard and our hot honey, and to give foodies and fans a new way to enjoy a little sweet heat on their favorite foods.”
Farmer-owned butter brand Challenge Butter is rolling out Spreadable Butter with Avocado Oil. The product combines freshly churned butter, pure avocado oil and sea salt and “spreads silky smooth straight out of the fridge,” according to the company.
“People are looking for high-quality dairy products that meet their needs and lifestyles now more than ever, and we’re glad to be able to deliver that with our new Spreadable Butter with Avocado Oil,” said Michael Burdeny, president of Challenge Dairy Products Inc. “With this new product, we’re giving consumers the fresh taste of Challenge Butter that they love with the added benefits of omega fats.”
PepsiCo’s sparkling water brand, bubly, is launching its first-ever holiday flavor. Merry Berry Bublé (a nod to singer Michael Bublé) combines the flavors of raspberries, blackberries and strawberries.
Compartés Chocolatier is releasing a limited-edition red velvet cake chocolate bar inspired by the upcoming Amazon Original movie “Being The Ricardos,” a biographical drama starring Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem.
“With its rich Hollywood history, Compartés was a natural fit to create this modern-day take on a Ricardos chocolate bar,” said Jonathan Grahm, founder and chief executive officer of Compartés. “Growing up the ‘I Love Lucy’ series was one of my favorite TV shows because we watched it all together as a family. I am so excited to create this special chocolate bar in homage to these iconic stars and in celebration of the Being the Ricardos with Prime Video.”
Organic Valley’s meat business, Organic Prairie, is debuting three blends of seasoned ground beef. Varieties include Fiesta Blend, Italian Style and Sweet Sloppy Joe.
The beef is sourced from cattle raised without artificial pesticides, fertilizers, antibiotics, synthetic hormones, GMOs, or other synthetic contaminants, according to the company.
“Our new organic, seasoned ground beef gives home cooks a choice of high-quality protein that’s quick and easy to prepare,” said Dave Greening, general manager of Organic Prairie. “Shoppers can just ‘grab and go,’ and the meat is fully cooked in approximately 8 minutes.”
Proper Good is adding to its oatmeal line with the launch of a spiced pumpkin pie and maple stir-in variety. The base includes steel cut oats, chia, flax, hemp seeds and coconut oil, while the stir-in pumpkin pie spice blend is mixed with pure maple sugar and pumpkin seeds.
The pre-cooked, shelf-stable oatmeal is dairy-free, gluten-free and plant-based.
RIND Snacks is introducing a limited-edition island-inspired dried fruit blend, featuring honeydew melon, mandarin orange and chewy banana bites. The company sources irregular or surplus produce that would otherwise be wasted and includes the skin or peel, which typically packs more fiber and vitamins than the flesh.
“As a non-conformist fruit snack, we’ve never been about following the crowd,” explained Matt Weiss, founder and chief executive officer of RIND Snacks. “Peppermint and pumpkin spice may be nice, but we think consumers are looking for a snack to transport them this winter…which is why we’re fired up to give these summertime fruits a second life in winter.”
Plant-based foods brand Daiya has reformulated its dairy-free Cheeze Block line made with oats and chickpeas. The new recipe offers a “creamier, more balanced taste with a semi-firm bite and smooth finish,” according to the company. Varieties include Medium Cheddar, Jalapeño Havarti, Monterey Jack, Smoked Gouda and Classic Mozzarella.
The Naked Market, a better-for-you food and beverage company, partnered with supermodel and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen to create a new spicy snack. Cravings by Chrissy Teigen x Flock Honey Sriracha Chicken Chips feature crunchy fried chicken skins flavored with honey and red chili peppers. The product is gluten-free, dairy-free and low in carbohydrates.
"These Spicy Honey Sriracha Flock Chicken Skin Chips are that spicy and dangerously good,” Ms. Teigen said. “My mom, Pepper, and I tried to make this as hot as possible with a little hint of sweetness to keep you from breathing fire."
Planterra Foods, a subsidiary of JBS USA, has introduced True Bute Plant-Based Chicken Cutlet and Plant-Based Chicken Shreds. The products have a texture that is comparable to real whole-muscle chicken, with more fiber and less fat than traditional meat sources, according to the company. Featuring a blend of pea protein, soy protein and wheat gluten, The products are pre-seasoned and may be cooked in 10 minutes. Varieties include garlic and herb cutlet, sea salt and pepper cutlet, barbecue shreds and rotisserie-style shreds.
“As time goes on, the demand for protein will only continue to increase and the world won’t be able to satisfy that demand with meat-based products alone,” said Darcey Macken, chief executive officer of Planterra Foods. “With chicken being the most popular protein in the United States, it was clear we needed to create a plant-based option where people don’t have to sacrifice this mealtime favorite and have a healthier and more sustainable option.
