New snacks focus on real ingredients and plant-based options.
Whisps announced it is adding to its cheesy snack portfolio with the introduction of Whisps Cheese & Pretzel Bites.
The new snacks are made with 100% real, aged Parmesan and cheddar cheeses that come from four family dairy farms.
The product also features clean label pretzels, and comes in three flavors: cheddar, honey mustard and everything.
Bel Brands new Babybel plant-based snack was developed for flexitarians, dairy-free consumers and cheese lovers by mimicking the mozzarella taste and texture of the original Mini Babybel. It comes packaged in Babybel’s signature wax coating, but now in the color green to distinguish the plant-based variety from its predecessor.
The new snacks are available in 6-count bags at Whole Foods and Fresh Thyme. Elsewhere, they come in 32-count packs at select Southeast locations of Costco and 20-count packs at Sam’s Club. Per Bel Brands, expanded availability is scheduled throughout 2022.
Cottage cheese from Prairie Farms now comes in snack-size portions, as well as in a variety of new flavors.
The Midwest dairy cooperative recently rolled out its small batch cottage cheese snack cups, which are made with local milk, and without any artificial growth hormones.
The new line comes in 5-oz containers, are available not only in standard flavors such as plain (small curd or low-fat), but also strawberry, pineapple, peach, zesty fiesta and garden veggie.
Good Planet Foods’ line of cheeses includes smoked cheddar and smoked gouda varieties in wheel-form.
Like the company's other cheeses, the smoked wheels are comprised of allergen-free ingredients. The process for making the cheeses involves smoking them for hours with applewood chips, a first within the plant-based cheese market.
The Kellogg Co. is taking its Cheez-It crackers a new direction with the launch of Cheez-It Puff’d, a product the company describes as “cheesy, airy and puffy.”
Cheez-It Puff’d are available in three varieties: double cheese, white cheddar and Scorchin’ hot cheddar.
Boursin announced it is bringing its garlic and fine herbs flavor to two new formats, with Boursin Bites and Boursin Cooking Cream.
The home entertaining cheese brand previously introduced Boursin Garlic & Fine Herbs Cheese. Now it also comes in bite-size form, for adding to salads, pastas and other recipes.

HP Hood is introducing cottage cheese with everything bagel seasoning. The product is blended with onion, garlic, flaxseed and poppyseed and may be used as a snack, topping, spread or dip, according to the company.
Whisps Snacks announced the addition of two new products: Whisps Cheese Crumbs and Whisps Cheese Crisps & Nuts.
Both the crumbs for cooking, and the crisps and nuts for snacking feature Parmesan and cheddar cheeses made exclusively for Whisps. And both are promoted as keto-friendly, low-carb, high-protein options. The Cheese Crumbs, which are an alternative to traditional breadcrumbs, are offered in Buffalo and Italian herb flavors, and made with 14-month aged artisanal Parmesan cheese. Each serving has 13 grams of protein.
The Cheese Crisps & Nuts are available in tangy ranch, garlic herb or smoky barbecue flavors. The new snacks have 8 to 9 grams of protein, 3 grams of net carbs and less than 1 gram of sugar per serving. Artisan cheesemakers on family farms created the cheese used in the crisps exclusively for Whisps.
Weins Foods’ Plant Ahead Vegan Cheez varieties include feta in cubes and blocks, wedges of smoked gouda, white cheddar, garlic and herb, and original flavor. Foodservice sizes of cream cheese, Parmesan and mozzarella also are available. The main ingredient in the line of dairy alternatives is coconut oil.
Specialty cheese brand Cello’s latest innovation is a line of entertaining trays, Simple Pleasures.
The trays come in two versions: trays with three or four wells retail for a suggested $9.99, and trays with five wells are listed for $19.99.
The five well trays come with soppressata salami, sharp cheddar, grilled crostini, copper kettle Parmesan, and cornichon pickles and sweet Peruvian pearl peppers.
