Seasonal launches showcase tart, tangy flavors.
Hippeas Organic Chickpea Snacks has relaunched its tortilla-style chips, adding a sea salt and lime flavor to the line. The reformulated snack has a crunchier texture than the previous iteration, according to the company. Additional flavors are ranch and sea salt.
"The improved Hippeas Chickpea Tortilla Chip line fulfills direct consumer feedback, and we are really proud about where we landed with this innovation," said Paul Nardone, chief executive officer. "This product really stands up well next to its mainstream competitor from a taste and texture standpoint, but that's where the comparisons end because Hippeas Chickpea Tortilla Chips are organic and vegan and contain both protein and fiber and no artificial colors, flavors or ingredients of any kind."
Popcorn brand Opopop is introducing limited-edition pickle-flavored kernels. The company offers pre-flavored microwave popcorn in offerings including salty caramel, Maui heat and butter.
"Here at Opopop, we want to keep pushing the boundaries of flavor in our popcorn — Pickle Monster takes us into the ‘tart’ space, adding to our sweet, savory and spicy lineup," said Alec Hopkins, vice president of product and insights at Opopop. "We work hard to bring innovation and excitement to popcorn lovers. Our new dill pickle Flavored Wrapped Kernels deliver a big and bold flavor in a fun summertime snack. Opopop fans and pickle lovers alike are going to love it."
A new summertime flavor collection by Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams includes watermelon taffy, golden nectar, butterscotch popcorn and sundae cone ice cream. A dairy-free lemon bar frozen dessert is formulated with lemon, shortbread crust and coconut cream.
Talking Rain Beverage Co., the maker of Sparkling Ice, is launching a caffeinated offering inspired by watermelon and lemonade flavors. The zero-sugar, carbonated beverage contains 70 mg of caffeine and 5 calories per serving, plus antioxidants and vitamin A.
“At Talking Rain, we’re constantly creating and experimenting with new flavors that our Sparkling Ice and Sparkling Ice +Caffeine fans will enjoy,” said Sarah Gustat, executive vice president of marketing at Talking Rain Beverage Co. “Watermelon and lemonade are two flavors paired perfectly together for energy seekers looking for full flavor and an extra boost of caffeine while on the go.”
Low-sugar candy brand SmartSweets is introducing Jolly Gems, a hard candy with 1 gram of sugar per three pieces. Flavors include pink lemonade, green apple and peach.
Non-dairy frozen dessert maker Wildgood has added a new flavor, caramelized fig. The product features fig jam and caramelized brown sugar. Extra virgin olive oil is the stealthy star ingredient in Wildgood, developed by Greek ice cream maker. Sotiris Tsichlopoulos, who tapped his family’s olive groves to create a plant-based treat that has a creamy texture and low saturated fat content with no hint of olive oil taste.
Halo Top, a business of Wells Enterprises, is introducing a limited-edition vanilla chocolate twist light ice cream. The product will be available on retail shelves nationwide through the end of August.
Upton’s Naturals is expanding its line of vegan soups with three new options: minestrone, crimson lentil and chicken-style and wild rice made with seitan. The soups contain no added colors, flavors or preservatives and are free of cholesterol and trans fat, according to the company.
Condiment company Sky Valley has added a green sriracha sauce, made with lime, jalapeño and cilantro. The product is plant-based and gluten-free.
“With demand continuing to grow for Asian cuisine and ‘plant-based’-labeled products, we are focused on developing delicious products with global flavors that keep us at the forefront of consumer trends,” said Theresa Lindholm, brand manager at Sky Valley. “Green Sriracha is made with ingredients that meet a variety of dietary needs and the unique flavor adds versatility to any hot sauce lover’s collection.”
Ancient Harvest’s new Power Blend combines quinoa, amaranth, teff, chia, buckwheat and millet. A serving provides 6 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber.
