Trending flavors are driving condiment and sauce innovation.
Heinz added a pickle ketchup to its portfolio. The condiment aims to create a tangy and savory flavor profile that capitalizes on the current popularity of pickle flavors, according to the company. Heinz Pickle Ketchup marks the second condiment launch for the company this year, following Heinz Hot Varieties that debuted in April.
Fly By Jing released its newest chili oil flavor: Chengdu Crunch. The flavor, which is inspired by founder and chief executive officer Jing Gao’s hometown, is spicy and extra crunchy, according to the company. The Chengdu Crunch is non-GMO, tree-nut and peanut-free, vegan and contains no artificial preservatives or flavors.
Cedar’s Foods added a new sizzling scallion labne dip, which features a blend of scallions, red pepper flakes and labne. The dip delivers “the flavors of a classic sour cream and onion dip with a hot Mediterranean twist.”
Plant-based sauce company Bitchin’ Sauce added a dill pickle flavor to its line of almond-based condiments. The product is formulated with a blend of plant-based ingredients like water, almonds, lemon juice and nutritional yeast, among others. The dill pickle Bitchin’ Sauce may be used as a dip, a spread or as a way to smother over meals, according to the company. It’s also vegan, gluten-free, kosher and Project Non-GMO certified.
Fresh Cravings expanded its line of refrigerated salsas and hummus with two new hummus flavors. Developed in collaboration with condiment maker Tajin, Tajin Chili Lime Hummus adds an infusion of spice with a blend of chili peppers, lime and sea salt. Fresh Cravings’ second new offering, Dill Pickle Hummus, capitalizes on the growing pickle-flavor trend and features tangy dill and garlic notes.
Herdez, a business formed by the partnership between Hormel Foods Corp. and MegaMex Foods, launched a habanero hot sauce. Formulated from habanero peppers and pickled carrots, the sauce is aimed at consumers seeking a distinctive and versatile heat for applications like tacos, burritos, chicken wings, burgers, eggs and chili, according to the company. The sauce joins Herdez’s existing avocado hot sauce and a range of taqueria sauces, salsas, dips and guacamole.
Single-origin spice company Burlap & Barrel launched its latest product in collaboration with chefs Sohla and Ham El-Waylly. The collaboration initially debuted in 2021 with a Pizza Party spice blend, followed by Nothing Hidden Ranch, and now Yo Quiero Taco Blend.
The Yo Quiero Taco blend is a “fresh take on a ‘90s classic,” according to the company. It features a mix of cumin, coriander, garlic, onion, chili flakes, panela cane sugar, and more.
Wesson, a Richardson International Ltd. brand of plant-based cooking oil, made its first foray into the refrigerated aisle with Wesson Plant Butter.
Available in two varieties, Plant Butter (Original) and Plant Butter (With Olive Oil), the dairy alternative is formulated primarily from canola oil and is free from both cholesterol and preservatives.
Plant-based dairy brand Miyoko’s Creamery debuted a line of cheese spreads formulated from cashew milk. The spreads are made using traditional cheesemaking techniques and are kosher, certified organic and free from soy, palm oil and gluten. Miyoko’s product can act as a flexible topping option for various snacks, an alternative dairy ingredient to blend into sauces or an easy flavor enhancement for homecooked meals, according to the company.
Sauce, condiment and seasoning brand Noble launched a Sloppy Joseph Skillet Sauce. Noble Made developed its sloppy joe offering after identifying a need for better-for-you products in the space, and its formulation contains no high-fructose corn syrup and less sugar than traditional sauces, according to the company.
Pasta sauce company Yo Mama’s Foods launched a line of alfredo sauces, which are available in classic, spicy and garlic.
“At Yo Mama’s Foods, we make sauces so you can gather around the table with foods that are delicious, fresh and better for you,” said David Habib, founder of Yo Mama’s. “Americans love Alfredo sauces, and our culinary team worked for months perfecting this all-natural recipe made from fresh cream, Parmesan cheese and butter — just like Mama would.”
Melinda’s Foods released its hot sauce condiments in new 2-oz bottles. The line features a total of 15 products, including 11 hot sauces and 4 spicy ketchups.
“At the beginning of this initiative, we were proudly recognized as one of the select manufacturers capable of meeting the high production volume anticipated by Walmart, specifically during the busy holiday season,” said Greg Figueroa, chief executive officer of Melinda’s Foods, LLC.
Urbani Truffles added a line of organic truffle-infused offerings. The lineup ranges across several categories and expands upon Urbani’s existing portfolio of premium truffle toppings and sauces.
Products include white truffle salt, black truffle honey, both black and white truffle olive oils and truffle sauces, summer truffle carpaccio and white truffle potato chips. The company also has developed an organic porcini mushroom sauce as part of the launch.
