PLANO, TEXAS – Pizza Hut is paying homage to the Midwest with a new pie made in the traditional Detroit style.

New Detroit-Style Pizza is rectangular-shaped and features cheese all the way to the sides of the dish to achieve a crisp and caramelized crust. The new offering is available in four recipes.

The Detroit Double Pepperoni pizza is topped with 32 slices of regular pepperoni and another 48 slices of cupped pepperoni, which crisp in the oven to provide a crunchy texture, Pizza Hut said.

The Double Cheesy pizza is layered with mozzarella and aged parmesan cheese.

The Meaty Deluxe pizza is topped with bacon, Italian sausage and cupped pepperoni.

The Supremo pizza is made with Italian sausage, red onions and green bell peppers.

To develop the Detroit-Style Pizza, Pizza Hut spent over a year formulating and testing more than 500 iterations, many in the Midwest where the style was born. The company also tested eight versions of vine-ripened tomato sauce before deciding on the final recipe, which is available only on the Detroit-Style Pizza.

"Countless hours were spent testing and perfecting every detail here to create our take on Detroit-Style pizza,” said David Graves, chief brand officer for Pizza Hut, a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc. “The caramelized cheese crust and the sauce on top take the taste of this pizza to the next level.”

All four recipes are available at Pizza Hut locations nationwide starting at $10.99 for contactless delivery, carryout or curbside pickup.
