WICHITA, KAN. — Cargill has acquired two case-ready meat plants in North Kingstown, RI, and Camp Hill, Pa., from Infinity Meat Solutions, a subsidiary of Ahold Delhaize USA. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The 209,000-square-foot facility in North Kingstown opened in October 2020. The Camp Hill plant employs 800 and produces up to 2 million lbs of beef and pork products per week, according to Cargill.

Cargill said its workers already staff both plants because of a long-term partnership with Ahold Delhaize USA. Both locations produce packaged ground beef and pork, muscle cuts, and value-added products, such as seasoned, marinated and breaded meats for US grocery store brands.

“With this investment, we look forward to our continued partnership with Ahold Delhaize USA companies while bringing additional high-quality case-ready products to new retail customers,” said Hans Kabat, president of Cargill’s North American Protein business. “By bringing more of our case-ready and value-added protein products to retailers, their employees can spend less time on back-room prep work and more time helping their customers at the meat counter.”

Ahold Delhaize said it plans to focus on investments in its omnichannel businesses by selling the two plants.

“By aligning these facilities with a company that specializes in meat production, we can continue to provide quality products to our brands’ customers and increase our focus on being leading omnichannel retailers,” said JJ Fleeman, chief executive officer for Ahold Delhaize USA.

Ahold Delhaize USA, a division of The Netherlands-based Ahold Delhaize, features local brands Food Lion, Giant Food, The Giant Co., Hannaford and Stop & Shop.
