AUSTIN, TEXAS — Whole Foods Market, an Amazon.com, Inc. business, is introducing a smaller format store called Whole Foods Market Daily Shop. The first store is scheduled to open later this year on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, NY.

Daily Shop stores will range between 7,000 and 14,000 square feet and are about a quarter to a half the footprint of an average 40,000 square foot Whole Foods Market store. The intent of the new design is to provide customers in urban neighborhoods with a quick and convenient shopping experience.

The format’s assortment will feature grab-and-go meals, snacks and essential ingredients to complete a meal as well as fresh produce, meat and seafood.

“At our new store formats, we’re tailoring every square foot to the unique, fast-paced needs of urban lifestyles,” said Christina Minardi, executive vice president of growth and development for Whole Foods Market and Amazon. “We’re excited to introduce a new way for our customers to quickly pick up their Whole Foods Market favorites — from grab-and-go meals to that last-minute dinner ingredient — making the early morning or after work grocery trips more efficient and enjoyable.”
