HOUSTON — Tall Tree Foods, a portfolio company of Altamont Capital Partners, is acquiring The January Co., a Kent, Wash.-based manufacturer of Chinese-style meat products. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 1948, The January Co. has been owned and operated for more than four decades by Jim Ding, president and chief executive officer. The company produces Chinese-style sausage and barbecue pork products under the Kam Yen Jan and Yangtze brands in the United States. Mr. Ding, along with the current management team, will continue to lead the business through a transition period, and the company’s plant and office will remain in Kent.
For Tall Tree Foods Holdings Inc., the addition of January brings diversity and geographic expansion to a portfolio of companies that includes Blue Ribbon Bacon and Sausage, Richard’s Cajun Foods, and Klement’s Sausage Co.
“We are excited to add the January Co. to the Tall Tree Foods portfolio — its authentic products and strong brand equity are an excellent foundation that we will continue to build upon,” said Tim Bruer, operating partner of Altamont and c.e.o. of Tall Tree Foods. “The company is well positioned to capitalize on the substantial growth opportunities in both its current markets and beyond.”
Mr. Ding added, “We are pleased to have the future of The January Co. in the hands of new ownership with Altamont Capital Partners and Tall Tree Foods. I want to thank the many employees and family members who have worked so hard to get the business to where it is today. We look forward to the future growth of the brand.”
