Emerging applications embrace all aspects of the popular fruit.
Hidden Gems Beverage Co.
Philadelphia-based Hidden Gems is a startup founded by two woman who use science and creativity to turn upcycled ingredients into better-for-you beverages. Their first innovation is Reveal, a ready-to-drink beverage made from avocado seeds. It contains 15 calories and probiotics from apple cider vinegar. It also has three-times the antioxidants found in kombucha.
Conagra Brands Inc.
Conagra Brands Inc., Chicago, is introducing more than two dozen new products. One of them is Orville Redenbacher’s Microwave Popcorn Made with Avocado Oil. The product is sold in boxes of five bags or 10 mini bags.
Avocajoe Brands Inc.
Ready-to-drink avocado coffee is the latest “fatty coffee” to enter the marketplace. Developed by Avocajoe Brands Inc., Las Vegas, the 100% plant-based beverage is made with ground avocado, avocado oil and cold-brew coffee and is naturally sweetened with monk fruit.
The Wholly brand of refrigerated guacamole from MegaMex Foods, Orange, Calif., now offers ready-to-use diced avocado and single-serve smashed avocado. Like its guacamole, the new convenient formats of avocado are made with high-pressure processing technology to extend shelf life and maintain color.
Condiments and oils
Chosen Foods, San Diego, is a manufacturer of avocado-based condiments. The company is adding refrigerated guacamoles and salsa to its line, which already includes oil, cooking sprays, mayos, dressings and simmer sauces.
Vegan ranch-style dressings
BetterBody Foods, Lindon, Utah, manufactures 100% avocado oil then uses the oil to make a range of dressings and spreads. The Plant Junkie brand now includes vegan ranch-style salad dressings in five flavors: chia, chipotle, cilantro, original and turmeric black pepper ranch.
Salty snacking puff
The Naked Market
The Naked Market, San Francisco, is rolling out AvoCrazy, a plant-based avocado puff. It is the first avocado play in the puffed snack category.
Leaves for brewing
The Avocado Tea Co.
The Avocado Tea Co., Temecula, Calif., makes tea from avocado leaves, a normally unused part of the avocado tree. The leaves are blended with other flavors, such as chamomile, lemon and peach. The tea is full of antioxidants and support the anti-food waste movement.
