Innovative limited-edition menu items make their debut.
KFC is launching a new menu item for a limited time starting Feb. 26: Chizza, which is pronounced “cheet-za.” The menu addition features two white meat extra crispy fried chicken filets, topped with marinara sauces, melted mozzarella and pepperoni. Chizza first debuted on KFC menus in the Philippines in 2015, and has moved to menus in Korea, Taiwan, India, Thailand, Germany, Spain and Mexico, among others, and it’s debuting in the United States for the first time.
Krispy Kreme is launching its newest collection of donuts in collaboration with The Hershey Co., the “Chocomania” collection. Included in the “Chocomania” collection are four different donuts:
“For chocolate and donut lovers, Krispy Kreme donuts and Hershey’s chocolate is the ultimate pairing,” said Dave Skena, global chief brand officer for Krispy Kreme. “But our ‘Chocomania’ collection is on an entirely new level. These are the chocolatiest donuts we’ve ever created, and we invite our fans to go all-in on enjoying and sharing them.”
As warmer weather approaches, Dunkin’ is updating its menu with new food and drink items. Making its debut on Dunkin’ menus are Spark’ Energy drinks, which feature vitamins, minerals and a kick of caffeine. The drinks are rolling out in Peach Sunshine, a lychee and peach flavor, and Berry Burst, a raspberry and strawberry flavor.
Dunkin’ also is adding several cinnamon-forward items, like the churro signature latte and the cinnamon vanilla coffee, and a churro donut. For the first time, the chain is launching a breakfast empanada, which features scrambled eggs, sausage and melted cheddar cheese, all inside a flaky crust.
Taco Bell is testing a cheesy chicken crispanada nationwide, the brand’s take on an empanada. The cheesy chicken crispanada features melted cheese, chicken and a blend of Mexican spices, all in a crunchy shell.
Taco Cabana launched several new menu items, including fish tacos, chilaquiles bowls, and a margarita, featuring Big Red.
“We have a lot of great things happening at Taco Cabana this month,” said Ulyses Camacho, president and chief operating officer at Taco Cabana. “Our team has worked hard to create new and innovative items like the margarita featuring Big Red, the chilaquiles bowls and of course the new fish tacos. We look forward to having our guests try them.”
Sandwich chain Pickleman’s is bringing back its seasonal Big Tuna sandwich. The Big Tuna sandwich is topped with tuna salad, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles.
“Our customers have spoken, and we’re all about giving them a ‘Whole Lotta Love’ with this fan favorite,” said Doug Stritzel, founder and chief executive officer of Pickleman’s. “The Big Tuna sandwich has become a legend in its own right, and we’re excited to once again offer it as a special treat for our valued patrons, especially during Lent.”
Applebee’s is adding several St. Patrick’s Day inspired items, including a Tipsy Leprechaun cocktail and a Pot O’ Gold Daq-A-Rita.
The Tipsy Leprechaun features Jameson Irish whiskey, melon liqueur, blue curaçao, lemon sour and lemon-lime soda with a gold sugar rim. The Pot O’ Gold Daq-A-Rita, which is new to menus this year, is made from a blend of a Patrón Silver margarita and a Bacardi Superior Rum daiquiri, with triple sec, mango and a gold sugar rim.
