Kellogg announces pipeline of products

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. – Stretching across the Kellogg Co.’s U.S. portfolio of cereal, snacks and frozen foods, a range of new products promise portability and nutrition.

New ready-to-eat cereal options include Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats Touch of Fruit with raisins; Kellogg’s Krave S’mores, featuring graham-flavored whole grain shells filled with chocolate and marshmallow crème; and Kashi Organic Promise Raisin Vineyard, with rice, wheat, quinoa flakes and raisins.

Snack launches include Nutri-Grain Fruit and Oat Harvest bars in strawberry and blueberry flavors; Kellogg’s To Go Morning Biscuits in oats and honey and oatmeal raisin varieties; and Special K Indulgent Moments 70-calorie snack bars in coconut and caramel pretzel flavors. Kashi Granola and Seed bars are debuting in honey oat flax and chocolate chip chia varieties, made with whole grains, quinoa, flax and chia seeds.

Under the Pringles banner comes new Tortilla Crisps in three flavors: original, nacho cheese and Southwestern Ranch. The Cheez-It brand expands with a new Grooves line, which has the flavor and texture of Cheez-It crackers in zesty cheddar ranch and sharp white cheddar flavors. Keebler is introducing Fudge Covered Coconut Dreams shortbread cookies with layers of caramel and toasted coconut.

Debuting in the frozen food section are Eggo Bites maple-flavored waffles and french toast in vanilla and cinnamon varieties. The products are packaged in single-serving microwavable pouches for on-the-go eating. Special K’s bacon, egg and cheese flatbread extends the line of lower-calorie breakfast options. Additionally, Morningstar Farms has added an organic, Non-G.M.O. Project-certified roasted garlic and quinoa burger made with quinoa, lentils and vegetables.

Kettle adds Sriracha potato chips

SALEM, ORE. — With the Sriracha trend heating up, Kettle Brand, a business unit of Diamond Foods, has added the hot sauce flavor to its latest variety of potato chips.

Combining flavors of chili, garlic and vinegar, Kettle Sriracha chips are available in 2-oz, 5-oz and 8.5-oz sizes. Other varieties of Kettle chips include maple bacon, spicy Thai, cheddar beer and jalapeno jack.

Asian yogurt debuts

SANTA MONICA, CALIF. — Claiming to be a healthier and better tasting alternative to Greek yogurt, Tarté Asian Yogurt has a creamy texture and sweet taste from a slow-cooking process that caramelizes the natural sugars in milk.

Sweetened with stevia, each cup has probiotic cultures, 13 to 14 grams of protein and 115 to 120 calories. The products are made with certified rBST- and rBGH-free milk from California dairy farms and are available at select retailers in five flavors: original strawberry guanabana, mango coconut, green tea and honey, and blueberry acai.

Campbell’s launches slow cooker sauces

CAMDEN, N.J. — On the success of its Skillet Sauces line, launched last year, the Campbell Soup Co. has added Slow Cooker Sauces in six varieties: tavern-style pot roast with mushrooms and roasted garlic, sweet Korean barbecue with roasted ginger and sesame, apple bourbon barbecue with bell peppers and brown sugar, Hawaiian luau with pineapple, mango and bell peppers, Mexican red chile taco with garlic and sweet peppers and Moroccan spiced stew with green olives and lemon.

The products are prepared with beef, pork or chicken in a slow cooker until tender. Each pouch of sauce can be used for 2 to 3 lbs of meat to serve six or more people.

“This is a significant product development by Campbell,” said Dale Clemiss, vice-president, Simple Meals for Campbell North America. “We know that slow cooker use is on the rise, yet consumers can feel stuck using them for the same dishes again and again. Campbell’s Slow Cooker Sauces help enhance the slow cooker experience, and help busy cooks create delicious meals for their families, even on hectic nights.”

Campbell’s Slow Cooker Sauces are available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $2.99 per 13-oz. pouch.

Taco Bell unveils Grilled Stuft Nacho

IRVINE, CALIF. — The Grilled Stuft Nacho has debuted at Taco Bell for a limited time. A portable reinvention of classic nachos, the item features a triangular-folded grilled flour tortilla filled with seasoned beef, zesty nacho sauce and nacho cheese sauce, reduced-fat sour cream and red tortilla strips.

Nestle introduces Butterfinger peanut butter cups

GLENDALE, CALIF. — A new confectionery innovation from Nestle USA recreates the crispy, crunchy texture of Butterfinger candy bars in the form of a peanut butter cup.

Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups feature smooth peanut butter filling mixed with crunchy pieces in a shell of milk chocolate.

The product will hit retail shelves nationwide beginning in January.

Numi adds chocolate teas

OAKLAND, CALIF. — A collection of chocolate teas debuts from Numi Organic Tea, a maker of non-bioengineered, fair trade-certified teas. With 5 calories per cup, the Indulgent Tea line features four varieties: chocolate rooibos, blended with 45% cacao, vanilla bean and sweet honeybush; chocolate mint, which combines Numi’s Moroccan Mint tea with 55% cacao and orange peel; chocolate Earl Grey, featuring sweet bergamot orange notes, creamy vanilla and 50% cacao; and chocolate spice, with ginger, allspice, cardamom, cinnamon and 45% cacao.

“Since we launched our Chocolate Pu-erh Tea in 2008, it has increased in its popularity every year,” said Ahmed Rahim, chief executive officer and chief alchemist for Numi Organic Tea.  “Now we are pleased to introduce our Indulgent Teas, combining some of our top-selling tea blends with cacao to offer unique tastes for every palate within the ever-growing chocolate tea category.”

Numi Indulgent Teas are available for a suggested retail price of $7.99 for a 12-count box.

Spicy L.T.O.s at Wendy’s

DUBLIN, OHIO — A Spicy Chipotle Jr. Cheeseburger and a Spicy Chipotle Crispy Chicken Sandwich are debuting at Wendy’s for a limited time. The 99c sandwiches feature jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, and a spicy chipotle sauce atop a beef patty or crispy chicken fillet. The sandwiches will be available beginning in January.

Quaker expands cereal options

CHICAGO — The Quaker Oats Co., a subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc., has expanded its breakfast offerings with hot and cold cereals.

Quaker Warm & Crunchy Granola, a hot cereal with multigrain granola, is available in apple cinnamon, honey almond and cranberry almond varieties.

In apple cranberry and honey almond flavors, Quaker Instant Oatmeal Cups contain 190 calories, 5 grams of protein and 7 grams of protein per serving.

Extending the Real Medleys line of oatmeal and bars are ready-to-eat cereals in cherry pecan almond and peach apple walnut varieties. The cereals feature multigrain, real fruit, nuts and crunchy granola clusters.

“We’re focused on driving innovations that excite consumers while providing the wholesome goodness of Quaker Oats,” said Justin Lambeth, chief marketing officer for Quaker Oats. “Whether it’s a craving for a satisfying crunch, the need for a wholesome and comforting on-the-go option, or the desire for a flavorful medley of real ingredients, these new innovations aim to meet the many needs of families today.”
