KANSAS CITY — Foodservice locations are ringing in the new year with the addition of limited-time breakfast items.

Krispy Kreme is bringing back its Biscoff line of donuts, which first made their US debut in January of last year. For a limited-time, consumers can order three Biscoff-inspired donuts, created in collaboration with Lotus Bakeries. The new donuts include a Biscoff cookie butter cheesecake donut and a Biscoff chocolate iced cookie butter crunch donut, with the Biscoff cookie butter iced donut returning from last year.

“Our fans loved when last year’s Biscoff donuts landed for the first time in the United States, so we had to bring back Biscoff and make every bite even better,” said Dave Skena, global chief brand officer for Krispy Kreme. “These donuts have even more Biscoff cookie crunch, more Biscoff cookie butter and more deliciousness. Biscoff is back at Krispy Kreme.”

First Watch Restaurants, Inc. released its first limited-edition menu of 2024, which is inspired by regional foodie hot spots like Brooklyn and Mexico City. The new menu features several items, including a Brooklyn breakfast sandwich, barbacoa chilaquiles breakfast bowl, blackberry lemon cream French toast, holey donuts and mango passion palmer juice.

“This season’s dishes embrace the momentum of the new year while also appealing to those seeking comfort fare during colder months,” said Shane Schaibly, head chef at First Watch. “We’ve traditionally lightened our winter offerings heading into spring, but this time, we're leaning into the indulgence of savory meats and layers of flavor. Our new Brooklyn breakfast sandwich embodies this sentiment with the look of an everything bagel and flavors that’ll transport you to a New York deli counter.”

Starbucks also is adding three food products as part of its winter menu launch, which are debuting at a time when the company is trying to grow its $6 billion food business. The items include a chicken, maple butter and egg sandwich; potato, cheddar and chive Bakes; and a vanilla bean custard Danish. The egg sandwich will be part of the chain’s permanent menu, while the Bakes and Danish will be available for a limited time.

“We were inspired by the familiar breakfast casserole, and the savory combination of diced potatoes, cheese, spinach, chives and eggs offers 12 grams of protein at only 210 calories for a comforting breakfast on-the-go,” said Freshta Khosravi, a member of Starbucks food development team.
