KANSAS CITY — Spring is bringing sweeter items to menus, including a flurry of Oreo-flavored products.
Krispy Kreme is the latest chain to launch a limited time offering inspired by April 8’s total solar eclipse, joining other foodservice locations like Sonic Drive-In. The new LTO features an original glazed donut, dipped in black chocolate icing, topped with silver sprinkles, Oreo-flavored buttercream, and a whole Oreo cookie.
“Eclipses are rare and so is our out-of-this-world total solar eclipse donut,” said Dave Skena, global chief brand officer for Krispy Kreme. “Even if you can’t be in the path of totality you can get in the path of these treats, which you will eat in totality. Stop by and get some for you and some to share so you can flex your science side and great taste at the same time.”
In other Oreo-flavored news, Sonic Drive-In added several products to its menu, including the Oreo Big Scoop cheesecake sundae and blast. The sundae features Oreo cookie pieces on top of a vanilla soft serve base, while the blast features vanilla soft serve with cheesecake flavoring and Oreo cookie pieces. Both options are topped with a scoop of Oreo cheesecake.
“Whether our guests are looking for something sweet to pair with their cheeseburger and tots or simply a late-night treat, these craveable new desserts are perfect for Oreo lovers,” said Mackenzie Gibson, vice president of culinary and menu innovation at Sonic. “Sonic is already a go-to destination for innovative and delicious frozen treats, but this unique offer takes our dessert game to the next level.”
