Snack packs are gaining traction in the convenience channel, combining simple, high-protein ingredients such as nuts, cheese and meat, in multi-compartment packaging.
Pure Mediterranean Foods offers Hummus Plus, a line of 4-oz snack packs featuring hummus and chicken. Varieties include traditional hummus and oven-roasted chicken breast, roasted red pepper hummus and barbecue seasoned chicken breast, and garlic hummus and garlic herb chicken breast.
From Sargento Foods, Sargento Balanced Breaks varieties pair cheese with sweet and savory ingredients such as Greek yogurt drips, dark chocolate, nuts and dried fruits. Each pack has 5-7 grams of protein and fewer than 200 calories.
The Kraft Heinz Co. is expanding its P3 Portable Protein Pack platform with three new varieties featuring beef or ham jerky, seasoned peanuts and sunflower kernels. The company also is introducing Kraft Snack Trios, with cheese, dried fruit and chocolate chunks or granola clusters.
Pro2Snax from Reichel Foods pairs protein with produce. Recently added varieties include baby carrots with white cheddar cheese and almonds, and sliced apples with mild cheddar cheese and cranberries and cashews.
Crystal Farms, a business unit of Post Holdings, is introducing Ready Egg Go! packs, featuring a hardboiled egg, cashews and gouda cheese, with 18 grams of protein per serving.
